you need a program where you can add the stockfish as a chess engine. What type of GUI do you use? The stockfish is just an engine and you need a software where you can put is as an enine. The most popular choices are Aquarium, Chess Assistant or Chessbase.
Help me learn to use Stockfish?
Having issues too. Have downloaded the files, but nowhere to use them yet without a GUI.
What GUI would be best (preferrably free - or relatively cheap) for a Windows 8 system? Thanks so much!

aquarium is pretty cheap and very easy to use, free monthly database updates. Has opening tree and endgame tables, so in the long term that 40 bucks will pay back. wholesalechess.com .... or chessok.com sells it. weekly database updates through chessok.com. Arenachess is ok, free but not as good as aquarium. If trying to get extremely good chessassistant and chessbase are the top but more expensive choices. I would say aquarium is good enough and is extremely easy to use and has everything you might need.

Chessbase have stuff.
Don't think engine is going to help you much and you're better using other learning resources until you have moved passed the site average rating. (1340 approx.)

I've played and beat people ranked between 1800 and 2100, and I think analzying my best games will certainly help me to improve.

In blitz/bullet chess though? Your best win live standard shows 1231
Good luck with it any case. Hope the engine helps your game.

Engine analysis is important, if you take seriously chess. It shows stuffs you missed, what you can do better. But first I suggest to try you yourself to analyze your game, shred it to pieces, then compare the analysis to engine analysis and so you will see you weaknesses...

The average rating for blitz is 1087 (see http://www.chess.com/livechess/players?type=Blitz)
The average rating for bullet is 1133 (see http://www.chess.com/livechess/players?type=Bullet)
Hence, SteelSerpent is above averge rating at this site. However, as someone with a similar rating to OP. I am not convinced I find engines that useful.

I think analysing your losses will help you more.

This is fantastic advice. Thank you so much!
I just downloaded this app, and I'm using the Mac version. I have a very solid computer setup so there is no issue there. I don't know how to use it though, and there is no documentation online as far as I can tell. Sorry if this is the wrong place for this post, and thank you for any advice you have to offer.
