How to crush someone with the Hippo Defense...

The key to the Hippo Defense is attacking on the flanks with c5 and f5.  This is illustrated PERFECTLY in this game.  Enjoy and hope some of you start using this wonderful defense.

My opponent should've resigned by move 34.....perhaps earlier.

Time Control is 15 minutes Standard.

Your opponent started out doing fine but began to make a lot of unnecessary pawn moves on the wings and also helped you pushed your pawns with a silly bishop move. I think your opening confused him and he tried to sort of copy you by making unnecessary pawn moves. Of course your pawn moves had a goal to reinforce later pawn pushes while his pawn moves simply did nothing. This game not really a good example of the hippo because your opponents developing moves where dubious and allowed you to create a good break that created a nice passed pawn that later allowed for a tactic to win material. It wasn't just the pawn, it also had to do with his poor choice of moves. His queen was undefended and it was under attack by the enemy queen. I do not remember exactly why he moved his queen to that spot, but I would assume it was to defend the knight. I do not think there was a defense in that position, but I don't know for sure because I can't look back right now, so the pawn breaks help to create a passed pawn that bound your opponents pieces to eventually win material and later the game. I do not believe this would have been done so easily had your opponent played better moves. I recommend playing someone higher rates and winning before you come here telling people you have the secret to beating people with the hippo yet your opponent made a lot of bad moves not really achieving much at all giving you time to create a pawn break which created a passed pawn that created a tactic to win material and the game. Play a good opponent, win, then you will be able to claim you know how to play the hippo. Your post is just like me teaching people how to win with h4 when my opponent plays f6 first move... I hope I'm not coming across as mean or anything I don't mean it like that, I just feel your opponent strength needs to be higher before you post games on how to play a certain opening. I mean would you read a book of GM games who played amateurs that played f6 their first move all the time? No, I want him to play an opponent of equal strength, else it's not really instructive.

You seem to be too caught up on my use of the word "secret."  What if I said "key"?  Would you have then lied and said she didn't say the key to defeating people with the hippo?  Why are you bothering to defend her anyway?  Regardless of what nouns I use to express my point the point still stands.  She claims in her title that she know's how to "crush someone using the hippo," yet this is based on a game where her opponent made silly opening moves that allowed her to make her numerous pawn moves to formulate an attack.

I didn't mean to be mean or anything when I said what I said.  I was just merely addressing the fact that her opponent allowed her to come in at him because he was playing too passively, probably trying to gain time by moving his knight to inferior squares and then also moving wing pawns for no apparent reason.  So the title really should be changed to, "How to beat a Patzer using the hippo."  I would still be interested in beating a Patzer, as I find that I am still one myself.  My point was this post wasn't the best name considering the title because the game was onesided.  Had I of posted a game where my opponent made serious blunders and said, "How to beat a guy using the!!" yeah I said this already but apparently you didn't understand me the first time so I am repeating myself.  I'm sorry for being harsh it's just that I thought I made myself clear and I don't like to repeat myself.

Nice game! The hippo is quite playable and flexible, especially in blitz. Very easy for people to overpress.

Why would your opponent resign in some nothing 15 minute rapid game? You guys need to start realizing that 15 minute and 30 minute games really don't represent real OTB rated games. Resignations come because there's still tons of time on the clock and the position is clearly hopeless. There's no real reason to resign in a game like yours where it's over in a matter of minutes one way or the other.

Play some real chess sometime. 45/45 or longer.

She didn't say or even insinuate what you're alleging. She was just posting a game and citing some thematic points which you can find repeated in other instructional materials such as videos.

I give up.  Have a nice day!

Guys daybreak is right as a 1700-rated player this person is clearly playing someone below 800  and this person did pot saying how to crush someone with the hippo when the only reason she won was that that person blunders at least 10 times.

You cannot win a game of chess unless the opponent makes an error.
The hippo is a viable defence even played in the classical world championship:
