how would i know if im an intuitive player or calculating?people say capablanca was an intuitive chess player for example,what are some things i can look at to see if im intuitive or calculating thanks?
Im intutive, i "play by feel"
Im to lazy to calculate anything past 2 moves. But what the heck, it got me to USCF A Class.
Well, I would say my biggest fault is laziness in analysing. I like to work hard away from the board, studying, which I enjoy and wrongly think I can bring all the "knowledge" to the board - but chess is a fight and at the board the speed and strength of boxing translate into that fighting spirit of needing to look deeper and wider to prevent being put on the floor. I think of chess as a fight and it is often exaggerated as an intellectual pasttime

A bunch of us went to Reno last October for a tournament. 3 time US Champion Nick DeFirmian was playing, and a friend and I were watching. I said Nick will play...After some time Nick plays the moves i said he would. My friend looks at me and says "How did you see that?" and "Why dont you play that way OTB?"
For whatever reason i have much more desire to analyze games that arent mine :-)

I don't think it is good to be an intuitive (can't calculate) or a calculating (no intuition/positional understanding) player. It is best to learn to be good at both.
I tend to think "intuition" in chess is shorthand for "I'm too lazy to calculate but don't want to admit it "
