Keeping a pokerface

Hello online Chesscommunity ,

Yesterday I played an OTB game, which I annotated with my original thoughts and sometimes the time I took. The lines I give are the ones I calculated during the game.

I would love to get advice on the moves and plans I made. 

If you dont want to go through the entire game and my lengthy blathieblah annotations but are willing to give my a little bit of advice then please take a look at the position after move 27...Ra7-c7 of my opponent. Not only do I blunder in my next move, but also I had great problems forming a plan. 

For what it's worth

His rating: around 1980/1990 or so

My rating: around 1950 

Timecontrol: 1:45:00 for 35 moves then 0:15:00 are added for the rest of the game.

Time left in the final position (32.Qf3-a8+) Opponent 6 seconds or so for 4 moves. Me around 15 minutes for 3 moves. here is the game:

Going over the game it struck me that your move e5 gave you a space advantage while you blocked your bishop.  A few moves later black manages to get his f-pawn to f5.  Afterwards you’re trying to attack the black king. I think there is just not enough space to do that succesfully.  All the pieces have to fit through f2 and f3. The only pawn you have to attack is the h-pawn and your rook is in front of it. Also the black pieces are aiming to attack on the kingside there are to much defenders. The white pawnchain f4-e5 suggests a queenside attack. Looking at the position on move 13 that’s why I think Nxf3 followed by d4 – d5 (maybe d6) might have been a idea. If black tries to get rid of his backward pawn he has to do that through pushing it forward. And when he does your bishop on b2 will get a force to reckoned with. I do however think that you’re kingside attack stopped black from attacking himself with g5.

Your bishop remark: I agree with your Bishop remarks, it was kind of a big decision like I mentioned in the annotation.

14.Rxf4 Too be honest, I am pretty confident about 14.Rxf4 followed by 15.Rh3 I am in fact trying to play the entire board. I did not like 14.Nxf4 as much because I abandon the option to play Nc4, which played quite a part of my gameplan then. I like the rook on the 3rd. If ever d3 moves, it can swing over to double rooks on the queenside. Especially if b3 has also left its current square. By leaving f3 for h3, it does offcourse  put pressure on h7 but also it makes room for my Queen to go to h5 or f3 (and also my Knight to go there ) (the Queen on f3 has a nice diagonal there). 

Whilst I can see the general logic of your advice on pushing the d-pawn. I do not think it will work in this position. 

How do you think I should handle the position after move 26...Ra7?
