In the Najdorf, the d5 square is often a battleground. If Black plays e5, then he has to be extremely careful not to let White plant a Knight there and dominate the game. Given this simple theme, White's 6 Bd3 is a poor move. 6,Bc4 would make e5 by Black bad, while 6.Be2 would have developed a piece without clogging up the d-file. 7.Nf3 was probably not good either, since White generally plays f4, often followed by f5.
In the Najdorf, black usually develops his QN on d7 instead of c6. One reason is to reenforce the Nf6. Remember, White wants to take permanent control of d5, and your Nf6 guards that square, so he may want to exchange off your N by Bg5->xf6 for instance. If your QN is on d7, you just recapture and continue to guard d5. On the same theme, you might have been better of developing your QB to e6 (guarding d5). That's a lot of theory for a handful of moves, but these opening variations each have their own unique ideas, and usually no one explains them
wow thanks! Thats some very useful information! Any idea where I can get this kind of explanation regarding openings (like the key squares to take note of and general strategy)? Generally sites explaining openings just go into the possible lines and variations but do not explain them in detail.
Hi guys! This is the first time I'm posting a game online and I hope you all can give me some tips to improve
I've only started to play chess around 3 months ago, and now it has become my new hobby! In this game, I wanted to try something new by not retreating my bishop on move 10 and instead capturing the pawn with my knight. I know that move the pawns in front of your king at the start is bad, so my thinking is that this may be a good way to exploit this weakness.
After playing a good hundred over games this three months, I think my main weaknesses are:
-Not fully assessing the threats which my opponent's previous move made. I was too preoccupied with making my own moves.--> many silly blunders
-Not calculating deep enough
As a result, I often throw away games which I was clearly winning.
Thats all for today! Hope I can receive some pointers for my game
