and its logs show no errors. when crafty hits an error it dies. I was very surprised by ne5 actually but other moves like that in the past have gotten me checkmated in a move or two by crafty.

(Reading database ... 190079 files and directories currently installed.)
Removing crafty ...
Purging configuration files for crafty ...

there that should fix any errors in it

in order to download a virus i would have to download the .tar, extract it, chmod + the *.sh file, make install the *.sh, and then configure it in its /etc/ folder to run optimially . but i dont download strange .tars and execute them. I use the depositories.

There is a linux version of Shredder, though it is Java based (blech).

I am not aware of any linux versions of Fritz. I run Fritz on my new laptop, which dual boots between Vista and Ubuntu. I also have several virtual machines on my Gentoo linux desktop, for various other games and chess programs.
I'm going to have Crafty annotate the game under Gentoo, which is a quad core machine. I'm curious to see what that reveals.

I play crafty on my computer on xboard for fun sometimes but never seem to be able to beat the damn thing, let alone draw it! I finally got my first draw today and I'm very happy even though it seems like the computer made a terrible mistake to me. Though I was ahead in pieces at one point and suppose I could have actually beaten crafty if it wasnt so ...whats another word for crafty? good at building things?
So anyway I'm posting this game to see if anyone here could have helped me actually checkmate it.
here are the settings I used to anyone is interested. I tried to make the hash and pawn hash bigger but for some reason I cant. though it lets me make the end game tables quite big.
pondering enabled.hash table memory = 24M bytes.
pawn hash table memory = 16M bytes.
EGTB cache memory = 512M bytes.
game/5 minutes primary time control
my computer has a centrino duo 2 gigs of ram and runs linux if any of that is important either.
