I need some help with the chess.com game analysis. I just lost a game, and it is now analyzed, but it is so hard to follow. Not because the analysis is unclear, but because I can not follow it on the chessboard provided.

If I click on the first move (you know the little arrow for first move,) the chessman moves, but then to see the analysis I have to pull my screen to the right to see the analysis, and the chessboard is almost out of the screen.

Is there anyway to make the chessboard smaller so the whole thing can be seen without losing sight of any of it?

Am I being at all clear?

First I look for all the ?? by say 12. a6. (My blunders.) But I can't see them on the chessboard because in order to find my blunders, I have to go so far to the right that my chessboard and number 12 move has nearly disappeared.

A big ultra wide screen computer would do it, but I just have a regular 20 inch one. And even if I had a wide screen monitor, I think it would have to be ultra wide to display all the contents I am trying to see and use on the chess.com analysis.

Maybe someone else can express this better. But do you see what I mean? It is such a bother, and you can't concentrate on your errors for trying to find the chessboard and the go back to the numbers.

you could try changing your screen resolution to a higher number of pixels

stwils

That's a good idea. I have mine set at 800X600.

Can any of you see the entire screen in the analysis on your monitors?

Or set board size to medium or even small?

stwils

Now that is what I was hoping to hear. How do I set the board size to medium or smaller?

anaylize and annotate your games first, then after seeing how annoying and tidious that gets any problems with computer analysis will seem petty.

800x600 is long dead - nobody designs for that anymore. the real minimum size you should be using is 1024 wide

The board sizes can be changed under "board settings" which you can get to from any gameboard and is in the bottom right corner under the "Offer Draw" and "Resign" buttons.

I suspect you will always have problems unless you change your screen resolution to 1024 pixels width minumum though (I usually set mine even higher).

Erik, I know you are right. But are you saying I will have to change my screen resolution?

I would like to change the board size only in the analysis.

Would what you are suggesting change all my board sizes for my games?

Yes, I think it will change all of your board sizes.

s7Silver,

I tried that for the analysis. It really does help. Things still jump around a bit, but it is managable. I guess when I am playing a game, I'll just put the board size  back to normal or medium.

For analysis, being as I am using 800x600 I put it on tiny. That works fine for the analysis.

Thank you so very much for telling me what I could do to help my situation.

But I can change the board size back, can't I? I only want the tiny board size while using the analysis.

800x600 isnt really a size thats around anymore. Chess.com is probably designed for a minimum of 1200 pixels wide, try changing your monitor to that and you might find that it will be better. If you have a monitor thats so old that it cant be changed, get a new one and spare yourself radiation poisoning from the CRT.

My monitor is a Dell and it is NOT a CRT. And it is about 3 years old. I just happen to like 800x600.Tongue out

Well, you don't have to, but for all convenience you really should.

Right click on the desktop, choose properties, go to the settings tab and adjust the resolution. If you by accident choose a resolution that your monitor does not support, don't worry, it will change back after 15 seconds.

You really should go as high as possible, even if you at first don't like it, try it out, once you get used to it, big is good. If the text on screen is too small you can adjust it by clicking advanced and choosing the general tab.

stwils,

IE and Firefox also have a "zoom" feature that may come in handy (I use it on my laptop when I'm in Chess Mentor).

I believe that you use the Ctrl key + "+" (stuff gets bigger) or "-" (stuff gets smaller).

Ctrl-0 (or "=" maybe) sets things back to the default (100%) zoom.

(I'm trying to remember the PC key combos, sorry.)

This might be less laborious than always changing your board size setting.

Cheers
