Opinions on a position

I was looking for people's opinions on this position. Please give some indication of your playing strength/rating

[This is not a "puzzle position" with some deep-tactic... it is a question of positional advantage.]

Hmmm... I think the position is pretty even. White has doubled rooks on the open c-file, however his b2 bishop is completely blunted by blacks pawns. On the other side of the board, black's pieces are deceptively well co-ordinated. That isolated b-pawn might turn out to be a blessing in disguise near the endgame (especially while white's a-pawn is stuck). Both sides have well centralised minor pieces, and all I can say is that it looks drawish.

well im less than 1200 rating(i play a lot of blitz)

in my opinion, black has a good postion to block white and force a sacrifice to break through however with a nb6 there is a major hole in blacks defenses at e5

the scenario that gives white a edge is to sacrifice nf3 to e5 and then using a dangerous fork at b6 then c8 and e7

cool postions can go either way Tongue out

black is slight advantage because of passive dark bishop for white g6 f5 looks promising

i dont even know how the queen moves but...

the bishops are useless, black's light one can't be developed effectively eg. h3 could be played after black moves both knights out of the way, white's is probably best where it is defending the e pawn (ie useless) or on b3 eyeing the kingside. the dark squared ones just run into the opponent's pawns,

white's knights' outposts are d5 and f5 but he can't really get them there but black's can go to f4, supported by the pawn and queen. overally i think white is better developed because of his 2 rooks on the open file but there is no way to "break through" so i dont think that will be a real advantage.

in this position i would offer a draw, punch my opponent in the face if he refuses and play a differnt opening next time - its SO BORING!Yell

Patzer++

I can find no plan for either side to make anything of his position.

White's bishops seem to be not very active, but there's no way I can see to change that. Any plan based on a pawn break (such as f5) will just hurt black. Same seems to hold for a white break with f4.

Trying to take over the c file will just lead to mass exchanges. hmmm

I have no idea. I'd say it's either equal or very close to it.

Trying to fix white's formation with ...b5 soon for black may give rise to a strange position in which white's Na5 is better than on Nc4, since it helps white in the fight for the c file.

So I can't find anything that takes the position away from equality. White has nothing constructive to do with his move I think. Na5 before the b7 pawn moved is a bit senseless... And it gives rise to the question: what if black responds to Na5 with Ndc5!?   ?????? Not sure.

I have two questions......

1. What is a patzer?

2. Why are so many people forgetting to state their rating?

Your 2 questions have 1 answer:)

A patzer is Chess lingo for a player who doesn't really know that much.

And since no one below master level (some would say International Master level) really has anything more than elaborate explanations to his own misconceptions,

you got people of ~2000+ rating stating they're patzers...well, because we are.

It's a way for the people replying to your request to state that the whole "state your rating" request to be a bit pointless. Unless you only want the opinions of internationally titled players...
