Positional and Endgame Ideas

If I don't see any tactic, I try to find a positional move.  I'm not a grandmater, so they probably suck.  I also tend to suck at the endgame, so there are some moves here I question.  White is lost here, but it's the general concepts/ideas behind my moves I wonder about.

Thanks for any help.

Well, I realized 6. Kg1 isn't forced since g3 or h3 stops the mate, but it still seems like the best.

Here is an earlier position that has some questions, too.  It's from right after the material became uneven, and I had troubles figuring out what to do (mostly with the queen).  I wanted to get my rooks active, but they never gave me a chance.

Oh, something important I meant to mention is that I was also trying to keep the queen in a place she chould control b5 to stop that knight but gave up on it.  I think 7. cxd4 would have helped stop their knight, but they chose to drop a pawn.

ClavierCavalier

True, but this was a concern:

Since 4. h3 may not be the best move, things might go in a different direction, but it looks like it's no big threat any ways.  More moves than 6. Qe1 open, too.

What, Nd6?

ClavierCavalier

Doesn't that just give black a free pawn and a hanging knight for white?

In the first position you worry too much about the Nd6 move, sure the knight have a great outpost, but chess is more than just putting pieces at good squares. Your rooks will come into the game easily trought both the a and f file, and you can start generating play against his weak back rank for instance. f6 is not a bad move, but white can play Nc7 and regain a pawn, which might give him some chances. You should focus on opening files for your rooks, instead of worrying too much about Nd6. a5 and f6 in that respect is good, these moves also creates targets for you to attack ,and generate threats.

In the second position I thought both your queen manouvers and a5 where unneccesary. Getting the rooks into play would be my first priority. f6 immediatly does this well.

Maybe do Qxf4 instead of Rxf4?  That way they are both on the f file so the rook can help you to more persuasively attempt a queen trade, or chase the queen away if they refuse, if you trade queens then you have two rooks versus their one and a knight :3

Just a thought... I am still a baby kitteh at this... oh and apparently Mommy posted a picture of my game that I lost on time to you to show her roleplay buddies on Facebook, she's been nosing into her kitty's internet business, now who can blame her, but still... it's EMBARRRRrrrrRRRRASSING!!!

It's too bad your lost on time.  I think you were losing by force, but I could have slipped up.

It was so embarrrrrassing explaining to Mommy how I lost to a piano... I told her it was HER fault, she was so busy playing around on the computer she NEVAR changes my litter box or feeds me unless I make her... I turn on the computer every morning because it's the only thing that wakes her lazy ass up!

Oh and I go pee pee in places where she doesn't want me to to make her change the litter box ;3
