the caro kann defence is a formidable and respected defence to 1.e4.
I have the utmost respect for the defence and used to almost exclusively use it about 3 years ago until when i played a fiery member of the club. he met my advance variation with 4.g4 and I fell for the tempting looking 5...Bg3  followed by 6...h6 which was aesthetically pleasing only to be met with a crushing positional pawn sacrifice.

there was no recovery in the ensuing sharp game and I lost.

the game etched a painful memory and last week I got to exact the same torment (chessically speaking) on my newest friend J.... and his defence cracked.

I have heavily annotated the game so please look at the move list for variations and explanations.

enjoy.

Ouch. I don't think I ever played the caro kann defense. Looking at this game, it can be terrific for black if he doesn't know how to handle it correctly.

the caro kann is a solid defence..

however the innocuous  and natural looking 6...h6 spells doom .

white strikes in the center and black never really has a chance.

looking at the move list and variations will send a chill down your spine.
