On move 8 analysis recommends a3 just as a useful move to give your Bc4 a retreat square and to start expanding on the queenside. It doesn't like g5 because black has the chance to resume the pin on the Nf3 with Bh5. So you win the Nf6 but lose the Nf3 and are in quite a bit of trouble around your king.
On move 11 the capture of the bishop can be delayed by a move because first you can hit the black queen forcing it back to d8 (because you threaten Nc7+). Now you have improved the position of your knight, weakened the position of the black queen, and exf5 can follow with an even better position. You are maximising your advantage basically.
Hey guys,
In the situation where opponents use their bishop to pin your knight to your queen I saw an opportunity to continue pushing and try to take his knight or bishop. It worked and I got his bishop. However, the game analysis registered my move 8 and 11 (I'm white) as mistakes. Just wondering why this is the case?
