I am watching the last round of the Women's World Championship, and white played Rae1. Is the reason that moving the other rook would open itself up for a possible knight fork later?
What other reasons are there for not moving the other rook to e1?
I always assumed the f-rook helped protect the f-pawn. Another reason could be to move more pieces closer to the king for defensive purposes.
Yeah as played it looks a wasted tempo but I guess it allows the f rook to develop in some lines.
