Resigned?!?

First let me state I'm not looking for an overall analysis of the game (which is why I'm not bothering to annotate). If someone wishes to do that by all means knock yourself out. I'll let this game sit on the shelf for a bit and mellow out before I attempt to study it.

This is my first loss since I joined the site and while I certainly expect to have many more in the future, being the first it stings just a tad. As a principle I tend to side with the 'never surrender' crowd but in the game below I really didn't see any reasonable expectation of winning, or even forcing a draw. And so I resigned. What I'm asking from the forum readers is your opinion on whether I resigned too early or not. Does anyone see a way to stop his passed pawn?

P.S. Good game UnbelievableTruth...but I'll be looking for you again after a few more games.Wink

Just a couple of suggestions on the endgame.

26...bxa3 is probably better to undouble your pawns and isolate his.

34...fxg5 was necessary to prevent a passed pawn.

There is a good chance that you would have lost had the game continued to it's conclusion considering your respective ratings. Otherwise when you want to resign is up to you. I may have played around 5 more moves, but I would have resigned soon as well.

I think you would've been able to stop the pawn, but then your knight would be stuck in front of the pawn and the odds would be in White's favor from that point.

Yes, that was my thinking as well...I could block the pawn but only at the cost of neutralizing the only power piece I had left (as any attempt at actually taking it would be futile)...leaving his king to escort the remaining pawns down the board with little hope to stop them. Thank you both for your comments...it generally reinforced what I already knew but didn't want to accept.
