g6 and Bg7 were a waste of 2 moves, what does the bishop do on g7? just weakens your darksquares , after Bh6 just 0-0 was better . while sacrificing your rook on c3 for an attack is common in some sicillians i dont think it was good here because after Qb6 white should have played f3 , protecting pawnand keeping f6 knight out of attack and after Nc5 Qe3 or Qe1 will be a sufficient defense of the white king and you will be material down

Not that I am highly rated but I don't like 16... Nxb3 as it swaps your active knight for his knight that has done nothing and solves his double pawn issue.

black wanted to win the c pawn with Nxb3 but after Kb2  Nxe4 Rc1 he only wins the pawn he would have won either way . Unless white was in time trouble or this was a blitz game I dont believe this is a 1700+ player .

11..Bg7 loses a pawn

12...Bh6? makes no sense

After 13.Qh6 your lost.  You got very lucky.

You didnt draw the game, your opponent threw away the win.

it was 30 minute standard with my opponent rated 1792 at the time, thanks for the help and yea i know i got lucky, and my opponent didn't play the greatest, neither did i, just wanted some comments on my own play

I would study up on how to play the Sicilian.  Good Luck

I thought this was a nice game. at a glance I loved the exchange sac, keep playing the Najdorf its a brillant opening.

thankl you, other than the opening, based on the game is there anything particular you think it would help me to study, i.e. tactical or positional ideas or a certain grandmasters games?

SharkTeam17

thank you slizard i will check it out, i had fianchettoed the bishop hoping my opponent would trade then off so i could do Rxc6 without the queen recapturing, i had seen that capture in a few grandmaster games, in hindsight it wasn't as effective in my position

This leads to an interesting question for me.  nXb3 only works to win the c pawn if white fails to see a fairly basic tactic.  I am 1350ish and I catch that tactic 96 out of 100 times (probably because I fell for it a lot in the past).  When do you try the tactic versus assuming they see it?  Here I didn't feel like giving up the active knight for the inactive knight was worth the "tactic check"

Equiv

Objectively if something doesnt work you shouldnt do it so either the player didnt see deep enough or was low on time .

thank you, i checked out your article, i found it very good and feel i now know quite a bit more about the opening and what i should be aiming for in it

GasconJR

Well it is a basic article explaining the idea of a6 and the difference between Najdorf and other sicilian variations... Of course no one can go deep in a Najdorf's article its a quite sharp opening
