yeah I know your a fan of waitzkin as am I. matter of fact I started playin after watching searching for bobby fischer too. :) that being said one of his biggest sermons is NOT to focus on learning openings and to instead focus on learning the endgame. Although I havent entirely followed that doctrine, I believe it to be the truth as the correct approach to excelling in chess play. I think thats what happened here and has happened to me as well. When your opponent goes waaaay out of any opening book it can really throw you for a loop. The second game I play against such tactics is usually much better played for me as Im now in an expecting the unexpected mode. I guess thats where I should really be at anyways but hey! I like to get comfortable and not think sometimes just as much as the next guy! Actually any time Ive spent "studying" openings has just been a result of my desire to conserve time by not having to think my way through the first 4-11 moves that I could have memorized. Thats what I tell myself anyways :) Nice game!
This is a wild game where I decided to just make some opening moves off the beaten path against the english. This created a queenside castle and a recipe for a devistating attack with many pieces coming into play and a mate in 21 moves. Analysis?
