What's my problem? stuck under rating 500

I'm not sure how old this topic is but I was fluctuating between 550-675. I knew about pinning pieces and that was a tactic I almost always used while "in the zone". Then I saw a remark on the app that suggested puzzles to increase your rating.

I am still trying to climb the next 200 point hurdle but the puzzles helped out a lot. I honestly never imagined winning against 800 rated level players. but I had my first few wins recently.

Quick note: I did all the intro training (As tedious as it may be) and try to watch the videos of each daily puzzle. Overall, it helps you recognize patterns.

Hey everyone! Just noticed this thread has gotten some recent posts so I just wanted to say that I've made it to 560 in my rapid games which I understand isn't high but it's better, but it seems I've managed 730 in my daily chess games! I didn't even notice till today how well I was actually doing in dailys. Maybe I'll hit 1000 some day, maybe soon if I start playing more often!

I think board vision should be helpful not that it will work it depends on the person

https://www.chess.com/vision

Dont focus so much on elo btw because for example 700 elo in daily is like 500 rapid or 200 rapid or 800 rapid

The issue with daily is there's way to much of a wide range of players because there isn't enough people playing it stick to rapid or play daily with friends

Thx for the heads up, I don't really take the time to play a lot so puzzles and daily allow me to pop in and play a few moves now and then. Every now and then I play a couple rapid games when I have peace and quiet lol

Can someone take a look at my games and give me advice on what I need to learn. I've played a while and feel like I should have a better grasp on this game than my score reflects. I hear people say that at 500 rating or less you aren't understanding some basics. Understandable but I really don't know what it is that I'm missing yet. Sometimes I feel like I'm pretty good then I manage to muck up too many games and can't get my score back above 500. If someone can tell me what concepts I'm missing and need to study I would appreciate it. Wish I could afford to hire a coach or something lol.!

Basically, it's one-move tactics. You will find it hard to progress in chess, no matter how much knowledge you accumulate, while you keep missing relatively simple tactics. Everything you missed in this game was well within your current ability--if you look!

I see your point but how would you suggest better learning these tactics?

That's the big question, isn't it? There are no books featuring problems like "White to move and not lose his rook." You have to form the habit of paying serious attention to your opponents last move. Most mistakes happen because you pursue your own plans without noticing that your opponent's last move contains a threat, usually an obvious threat. After your opponent moves, you have to ask yourself: Does he have any checks or captures? If you do this on every move--and it just takes a few seconds--you will blinder less often

a helpful piece of advice : never look at material (first) when analyzing a position.
