A brilliant move and 100% accuracy.

What led me to the move was noticing that both diagonals were open leading to f7, so I thought, "How can I get my queen to h5?"

детский мат в 4 хода
соперник рано увел Ф-2 и не подстраховал

I didn't think I was developed enough to go for mate, so I was really reluctant to try this. On the other hand, I haven't been able to beat him in the past, so I was willing to take a little more risk.

For the record, while yes, I'm bragging about this move and this game.....I know, "Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while." I'm just an average player at best, so my "brilliant" moves are not an every day occurrence....so don't hate me for pointing them out.

It took me a minute to find the mate, but checkmate in 2 is forced if black recaptures the knight via Qh5+ and Qxe5#, regardless of which move is played.

Not forced- 4.Nxe5 fxe5 5.Qh5+ g6, and you need 4 more moves to checkmate Black.
Qe5++ does it in one move. The four move cm was my original plan. Once I moved the queen to h5, I saw Qe5 was even better.

Not after 5...g6, because after 6.Qxe5+ black can block the check.

After 5....g6, 6 qe5++
And, in fact, that's how the game played out.
I looked at the game, and I don't see where 5...g6 was played, or any g6.

I think I see. If he plays g6, then qxg6, so he delays cm. If I go straight to qxe5+, he can block with his queen.
But in the game, he just moved his king out, so qxe5 was checkmate. But you're right....now I see he could have held it off for a few more moves. In fact, my original plan when sacrificing the knight was the extended cm. I only saw qe5++ after I moved my queen and he moved his king.
I'm kinda proud of the move I made here (as white) which led to checkmate two moves later...against a player higher rated than me and who beat me in our two previous games.
