Analysis please?

Hi all. I just won what was, for me, a rather difficult but very satisfying game. Now I know I screwed up here and there along the way and somewhere in the middle I wasn't so sure I was going to come out of it in good condition at all. But somehow serendipity smiled on me.

I'd just love for some of the you more vetted chessaholics to dissect this and critique please. You don't have to mince words. I know I'm just a beginner. And anyway I appreciate honesty, even if it is brutal. Truth hurts!

I flipped the board for black's (my) perspective. Ratings shown are what they were when the match began.

Without further ado then:

Loomis

2. ... Qe7 It's  generally not a good idea to use your queen so early. A better opponent will use it against you to get a lead in development (more pieces off the back rank).

Your position gets very cramped. When playing you should think about how to get all your pieces off the back row and doing something active.

The whole idea leading up to 9. ... Nxf2 is wrong. You are giving up your knight for no reason. One pawn and preventing white from castling when you have no way to attack the king isn't close to being worth the value of a knight.

2... exd4 is much more desired than 2... Qe7.  This would lead into the early development of white's queen, thus allowing your back rank to advance early in the game, threatening white's queen, slowing down white's opening momentum/rhythm.

oh wow, i just spent ages doing a board with comments and it just vanished when i clicked submit... hate it when it does that.  Seriously annoying bug.  Perhaps i will redo the board, but i dont have a copy of the regular text i wrote.

hopefully it wont disappear this time...

Technique is everything. My follow-through always did leave something to be desired. Taking such wild chances actually runs VERY counter to everything at the core of my personality. I almost never behave that way in all other areas of my life. Strange.. Maybe it's the element of playing online.

diskamyl, Loomis is dead on in his insight of my reasoning behind Nxf2. That move's sole purpose was to prevent castling. To everyone, I thank you all for your points. I just have to stick to fundamentals and hammer them home so they become like second nature. Practicing good basics will hopefully instill good habits... and ultimately better playing!

sstteevveenn, you went through all that trouble for my little game? I'd really like to have your critique, barbs and all, if you wouldn't mind. Of course, you wouldn't have to do the whole board again but your analysis would be most appreciated.

sstteevveenn, your generosity must be spoken for. This is great! And exactly what I wanted. Thanks alot

Man, looking back at all that I wonder how my opponent could have given me so many chances to come back from certain death. I was so reckless. Guess I was galvanized by my other screwy victory in my first game with this guy.

lol, yeah sometimes, especially when i'm feeling a bit 'chessed out' (if there's not a word for that, then there should be!), it's fun/relaxing to just analyse someone else's games and look for missed tactics and stuff.  Much less stressful than trying not to make similar mistakes in my own games.  It's a bit like playing a game, only none of the stress or decision making, and you can skip bits if they're boring Laughing

Also, I try to avoid complications in my own games, and that was a very complicated game in places, so probably helpful for improving my game.

Whoa, a master weighs in. I was very worried about that combination, tonydal. Probably too queen dependent :|
