Analyzing a blitz game?

Hello,

This is a little blitz game I played here in "Live Chess" against user "chessmag". It's not a particularly grand game until you stop and start analyzing it.

At one point in the game, my attack basically fell short of winning and I decided to go pawn hunting and won with time at the end.

Quite insatisfactory huh? So I went back and started to review the game until I found the move 22.Qg6!?

Apparently, that position cannot be won by Black. He faces two threats of being mated:

  • 23.Qxf7+ Kh7. 24.Qg8≠. 1-0
  • 23.Nf6+ Kh8. 24 Qh7≠. 1-0

The only move that prolongs the agony would have been:

  • 22. ... Bxf5. 23.Qxf7+ Kh7. 24.Kf6+ Kh8. 25.Qg8≠. 1-0

So effectively the last move by Black 21...Qc8 is bad (if White knew what to play to end the game).

So the question stands: if you are Black and know 22.Qg6! is coming next, what do you play to prevent immediate disaster?

Proposing,

What about Kh8.

Sigmoid_Flexure

... g5 (postpones the immediate anyway)

Mmmm... Kh8 leaves the f7 pawn alone against the b3 Bishop...
