CSTal II - The Original Tal of AI

My apologies for plagiarizing the similar Stockfish thread, but I just had to showcase one of Chess System Tal II's (CSTal II) games.

CSTal was really designed for playing against humans in its own GUI. The CSTal engine isn't either Winboard or UCI. It's a knowledge-based engine, and as a result, it doesn't search very deeply. When paired against a similarly strong engine, sometimes CSTal's knowledge wins, and sometimes the "bean counter" opponent's deeper ply search wins.

CSTal is aggressive and not too materialistic, and it's always looking to attack the enemy king. It's been descibed as purposefully steering the game into the fog where the outcome is uncertain (sort of like the way M. Tal actually did :)) .

Anyway, here's the game below. I had to run each engine in a separate GUI. Time control was 30 seconds per move.

For the first 2/3 of the game, it appeared that both engines were jockeying for position, probing for enemy weaknesses where a pawn might be snatched. After about move 50, CSTal sees a chance to go after the enemy king, and EveAnn is a bit late in sensing the danger:

Wow. This engine actually plays a lot like Tal. Also for the first 50 moves the engines weren't jockeying, the Tal engine had the initiative and white was defending perfectly.
