"deep blue" was the name of the engine

Deep Blue wasn't the first to beat a grandmaster. Deep Tought was YEARS earlier.

Deep Blue

On May 11, 1997, chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov resigns after 19 moves in a game against Deep Blue, a chess-playing computer developed by scientists at IBM. This was the sixth and final game of their match, which Kasparov lost two games to one, with three draws.

Pretty sure the statistic was the first "World Champion" grandmaster to be beaten by an engine.

Anand did not beat Kasparov to become world champion.

He beat Kasparov in 1 GAME but then lost the match.

TestPatzer

Ahem. Kramnik?

In the Kasparov-Kramnik Classical World Championship match (2000), Kasparov couldn't do much of anything against Kramnik.

It was one of those rare times where Garry looked completely outmatched.

Jenium

Yeah, Kasparov couldn't win a single game in his match against Kramnik.

Anand never defeated Kasparov to become a World Champion. He actually got destroyed by Kasparov. The head to head score is heavily in favor of Kasparov.

actually kasparov didn't lose to deep blue his last game was actually draw grandmasters confirmed it and they wondered why kasparov resigned in draw position,it might be kasparov got high paid from that match so he wasn't obssesive enough to win the match

I once played in a simul against Magnus Carlsen. I didn't really lose. The starting position was a draw. Many GMs have confirmed this. True story. (The fact that I played a couple of moves and resigned later on is irrelevant here.)

@jenium the starting position was a draw, hahaa i get it i'm confident to play against magnus with no lose at all at early 5-7 moves😊

True story?  Hahahaha...

Anand has beaten Kasparov a total of 8 times.

But Kasparov was more dominant.
