Kicking the butt of Chess Titans

Chess Titans, the built in program on my Windows Vista, is my favorite way of wasting time while not on the internet. However, it is shocking the seemingly lack of intelligence after the opening moves - maybe it just mad a couple moves memorized?

Enjoy this game, it is a classic matchup of Human vs. Computer (level 9)!

i like the !

At least yours put up a fight.  I'll see if I can reconstruct my last game with it from memory - I was messing around with the Sicilian Dragon, which I personally don't remember well without an opening book or database, and Chess Titans was unusually generous with their material.

good game that was  shuttlechess92.

as an intermediate player,i love to play against the titans.(i win most of them)

and i love to play without any takebacks,to decrease my blunders and improve my game quality.

=)  Chess Titans is so great because #1 it is a computer (thrill of owning a comp!)

and #2 it came free with Vista, so I did not have to go purchase it myself.

Thanks for all the comments, but to be truthful I did do takebacks (occasionally) - I figured that my blunders vs. a computer which manually analyzes every move possible is the very least I can ask for Laughing

good, but I believe the correct move order is 3. Ne7+ Kf8 4. Ng6+ Kg8  5. Qf8+ Rxf8  6. Ne7#

after 3.  Qf8+ black can play Kxf8

nice game!

uritbon

i always try playing level 10 but i get bored from the hours it takes to think...

dr_chessdad

Have you guys played chess against the mac's inbuilt chess computer? Man that programe is very strong!

LOB

I recently got access to vista and chess titans, definitely needs some more levels added in some form of an upgrade!

broze

I once took the opponent's king in Chess Titans after castling queenside, really weird.

shuttlechess92

haha broze - that's never happened to me, I guess that is a different kind of checkmate!

uritbon - you are right, level 10 takes way too long to think, even in the opening moves.  Still pretty fun though.

Eniamar

This is a game I just played against Chess Titans on level 10, I did cheat a bit and use an opening database to play the somewhat odd opening, does anybody think I missed too much in my (quick) analysis? I feel like I could have done more than snatch a pawn and trade down until the blunder on move 42.

shuttlechess92

very nice game, but how long did that take you?

Eniamar

Quite a while, I pulled up freecell and made a few playlists in iTunes while I waited for it to think of moves.

I remember barely getting done with a brief analysis before I had to leave for work, so I think all-told something like a bit over 90 minutes.

gambitattack: I played the Mac chess programme a couple of years ago on a friend's computer - that one is much better than Titans. I got owned the first time I played it because I thought it would be rubbish, and only beat it after thinking for much longer on each move.

Chess titans doesn't appear to know the rule that you can't castle through check

And if you do, it then lets you capture the enemy king.

that video is just hilarious

I have a basic question about the Chess Titans program that came with my recent Vista computer system.  First of all, I played basic chess as a teenager, but I not real good with an overall strategy.  Chess Titans is my first and only exposure to computer chess.  Anyhow, my naive question: the computer FREQUENTLY tells me my proposed move is a draw, although from my perspective, it is just a good move.  When these "draws" occur, I may have a dozen or more legal options, so it is not a literal draw.  It is infuriating, since I see nothing wrong with any of these moves, they almost seem random.  What I'm I doing wrong, or is it a glitch with the program?

Eniamar

It could be one of a few things DAEK:

1) Does the computer have any legal moves?

2) Have you repeated the same position 3 times?(It usually won't do this)

It's probably the first one, it does try to go for stalemates, and I highly doubt that  you're drawing due to the 50 move rule.

If it's not either of those, why not post a game, or at least the position it called a draw so we can check it out?

DAEK

Thank you Eniamar!  No, I'm not repeating the same position three times, nor violating the 50 move rule.  Regarding #1, pardon my ignorance, but if I have legal moves and the computer does not, is this not checkmate?  Aaah, I may have just answered at least a part of my question.  I'm guessing if the opponent has no more legal moves, but they are not in check, then it is a draw; again, I'm guessing it is not checkmate if the computer has no other moves other than a checkmate, but were not in check prior to the move (in other words, I'm guessing the opponent cannot move into checkmate)???   However, if this true, it would only explain some of these draws, it does not explain all of them...  I will check it out and provide examples.  Thank you- I AM new to computer chess.
