Lost the chance to get my first smothered mate!

I was playing a friend of mine in a friendly game.  He is not as good at chess as me and I've been teaching him and playing games.

In this game I open with "The Fred" to make it more of a challenge.  Eventually he walks into a mating net, but instead of allowing me my first smothered mate he chose the mate in 1!  I've never been so upset with a win in my life!  Take a look:

In all fairness, we played another game today (1|0 bullet) and I didn't fair as well 

Got to remember to pay attention! 

i got repeatedly beat by someone a year ago when she opened with the fred... i knew it was such a bad opening it infuriated me that i couldnt take advantage although a couple games were close (making it all the more worrisome)
