Hello all,

I thought I might share this game and possibly get some feedback on it. my opponent was ranked quite a fair bit higher than me so it was a happy victory for me.

 Thanks,

Jason

Hey. Nice victory, very well played. I learnt a few things from this game (I'm Novice)

1. ... e6 - That is the starting of the French Defense, very bizzar that he didn't follow it through. It is meant to go:

1.e4 e6    2.d4 d5 - This leaves white with a few options, take or push forward with pawn and try and cramp black or something lol.

Oh and 3.Nc3 ... is awesome lol, now that is what i call multi-tasking :P

Wow, I didn't see 22. d5. Very nice call, tonydal. Thanks for the comment.

And thank you, Chess_Dragon. I'm pretty weak on knowing what openings are and where they typically go. The type of memorization involved is not one of my skills.

Ok, :D

I only know a few openings because i found a good chess book. It has a whole section on openings, but i only know Ruy Lopez, Nimzo-Indian, Sicilian, French and Caro-Kann.

Definitely more than I know :-).  I just play it by instinct, which doesn't usually take me too far outside of my comfort zone.

22...d5 puts him down by 2 pawns, actually.  23. Rxg7 (defends the knight too) dxc4 24. Ne5+ wins the (newly) c pawn.  I didn't look too closely but I don't see anything better for Black than the dxc4, getting the piece back.  If he attacks the knight and defends the pawn with Be6, then Ng4 attacks the bishop with check. and then white's free to withdraw the bishop.  Black can block the check, though, with Rf7 in which case he loses another piece but gets to take the bishop after all.  Of course, at that point, resignation should be considered since he's worse off than the original line I gave.
