One of my immortal games on chess.com

This is one of the best games I've played.  Best because through the entire struggle I played a solid opening (not a book opening other than the first couple moves), I played a very strong middle game, and one of my best endgames.  I believe my knight sacrifice on move 11. was deeply insightful and thrust the game into complication.  I think my opponents 14th move deserves a (!!).

I hope you enjoy and also know that I asked for a draw after move 44.  My opponent didn't agree with my assessment of the position, but in the end it was indeed a draw.

I would love comments as this was a great struggle.

wow.... that is a powerhouse game.  Lots of possibilities and ideas.  I would have prefered black to be more aggressive after his queen loss.. but that was spectacular play from both of you.

I thought this was a beautiful game. I do like your h5 move in the beginning. Well played.

Immortalgamer shows off a wicked barrage attack in this video of his on chesstv, take a look - he's a great annotator, and if he's too modest to brag about the chess videos he's made, well, I'm going to do it for him...

Personally, immediately after 4...g6 I would have 5.f4!?  with d3, Be3, Qd2, and Nf3 to come, and castle long.  But this is of course my biased opinion based on my failures as black in the Sicilian Dragon  - still, that bishop on e2 would have made ...h5 pointless after g4!

11.Nxg5 confused me - where was the third pawn to be captured?  I am wondering if 12...Nd4 is a blunder he could have played 12...Qa5, but I think White wins with h5, and then Qh4+

22.Qf3 was beastly!

I thought that QxRh8 was a mistake, as I thought that Qe7+ with a3 and b4! threatened.

Then my endgame skill is unworthy to pass judgment - so here is my opinion (not analysis XD): I do not agree with 33. h6 because it seems to just give both of those pawns away. perhaps a3 and b4 would have blockaded his king from entering white camp, but then I thought that you did an excellent job of pulling out a draw with that sleek pin of the dark bishop to the king. THAT was what made this game truly immortal, if not godly.

Not that I gained three pawns...but for newbies that a knight is worth three of which I got two back.

i like 25. Qe7+. d6 is soft and white has two nice pawns on the kingside. the exchange lets black off the hook. the rooks can be developed easily enough to make some real trouble for black before he can consolidate his position. i don't really see any countrethreats to keep white from pressing his advantages into a win

Niceeee

EnamouredKnight

a very nice game... you have all right to be proud... gg...

Brilliant middle game.

Grakovsky

I really enjoyed reviewing your game. It was played smoothly and aggressively. To play like you did it would take me quiet a bit of time to think. Great job, thanks for putting it up here.

bigfish

nice game

kershack

Beutiful game, nobody deserved to lose. That's chess justice!!

The first N sac is very ballsy and interesting. Two pawns and busted up Kingside, for a N.

But 25. Qxh8?  That's just an awful move.  You lose material. Q for R and B is not an even trade -- and you improve his position. There's nothing to like about it.

25. Qd5 is better... and 25.d4! is best!

starwraith

very nice, sir.

Thanks...I knew it was bad, but I didn't see d4!  Very nice.

I didn't find d4 by myself... engine found it for me :(  ...but I didn't like Qxh8 on my own ;)

Chessroshi

I used fritz 6 to find d4 too. It makes sense when you look at the position. The pawn push works on the weak centre pawns and gives white tempo to bring his rooks to more comfortable squares. Once Black starts backtracking, White can use his kingside pawns to their full potential. This is a good example of how to use computer analysis to aide in becoming a better player. The student reads books and hears about these ideas like centralized pieces, weak pawn structures, and passed pawns. So when we see moves like d4, we can understand them, and ideally we will implement them into our own games. That is the all important step of practical application of theory that we students need to focus on.
