Queen sac for mate.

Nice queen sac.  I sacrificed my queen in a game recently, but it took me 45 moves to get the mate.  It wasn't a grandmaster sequence by any means, but it worked.

tarikhk

45 moves after you sacced your queen? forgive me for saying this, but if that is the case, it probably wasn't a very accurate sac.

StrategicusRex

Here's that game I was talking about.

Looking back, the queen sacrifice does look like a rather stupid move, but I had a plan and I stuck to it.  Never underestimate a player's determination.

tarikhk

it wasn't necessary. You had obtained a fair advantage already. Kudos for having a plan and sticking to it, but a better one was; "trade down into a simplified endgame". With your four pawn and one piece advantage, it would have been a doddle. You're lucky to have won. On move 25, you should have traded a rook for example. Where white went wrong was going for the win immediately. He should have stabilized things beforehand.

I'll put it through a computer, mainly to show you how he could have defended accurately.

StrategicusRex

Okay, yeah, it was a dumb move, but I didn't notice much else I could have done.  I'm looking forward to the analysis.

tarikhk

funnily enough, your move was a blunder, but the computer suggests a different queen sac; 27... Qxc1 28. Rxc1 Rxc1. Well, That's not really a sac, but more an exchange in your favour. Where white went majorly wrong was 43. Kf3??,  43. Kh4 and your attack, with a little smart defence, is essentially over.

StrategicusRex

I knew it was a luck game.  Thanks for the analysis.  I can't believe it actually worked.

tarikhk

p.s. pretty much every move in the game after move 24 is either innacurate, a mistake or a blunder.

StrategicusRex

I just thought it was cool that I still won even after that dumb queen sacrifice.  I messed up a lot in that game.

tarikhk

p.s. 20. rd1 was a MASSIVE blunder( my game, not his). He could have taken my queen with a knight fork.

StrategicusRex

Yeah, that would have ruined your whole day.  I guess we all make mistakes sometimes.

I was playing a chess game in local league few months back and one of my friends got mated, through the opponent sacking the queen!

And I hear there is no luck in chess? We had some discussion of this when going over a friends game. One player was emphatic that our friend should have gone for the quick kill while I was for shuting down the counterplay and winning slowly. Often though, I go for the sack and take whatever happens in my own games.
