The Novelty vs. the French Killer

In this game, I played Black with the French against ih8sens.  Many of you have seen his games destroying French after French with the kingside attack.  Now watch this pretty game unfold.  Please voice your opinions and reccomendations.

A great French game. Well played!

i felt you had an edge, the game had still tons of moves left, to bad you guys stoped there, very nice way to handle the french though.

pffftt...that early exchange on e4 was hardly a real french. Tongue out

Nice play by the way

shuttlechess92

wow you beat the french killer- nice!

staggerlee

Aww, early draw, what a disappointment.

interesting line, 8.0-0 and 8.Qe2 might be a slight improvement for white

and I think white had better options for move 9, would have simply castled.

White should have held on to his bishop with 12. Bg3

12...f6 is another idea.

good game, I don't know if I like the line since you have to play c6 blocking your bishop.

TwoMove

After something like 8.Qe2 Nf6 9.Bd2 it would have been dubious for black to castle king-side, but black can play Qc7 and 0.0.0 similar to a caro-kann line. Not sure on the comparison with that line really.

8. 0-0 is the mainline e.g. Ngf6 Qe2 Qc7 followed by exchanging on e4.  If White captures with the bishop, a lot of attacking potential will be lost.  If he captures with the queen, then an early c5 complicates things.  I don't think he should have held onto his bishop because if I exchange, he gets an attack.

Nice annotations... a very nice depiction of my opinion of that game... I was stuck reacting when the natural french lines are all about letting white overextend himself (which never happens if he does it right).

I'm quite impressed.  Regarding the early draw... it was likely a good idea to accept it.  That knight could have been vicious although I simply offered the draw because my attack had fizzled out.

This isn't a new move but I still like the game

KillaBeez

I know that it is not a new move.  But my lines that I have studied never have.  b6 is not a new move.  But my favorable variations are.
