In Chinese Chess, protected pieces are called "Pieces with roots" and hanging pieces are called "pieces without roots".

In this game between two Chinese female players, these terms come handy.

The site of competition is Xinhua ( in Jiangsu Province ), the hometown of Hou Yifan. It has become quite a mecca of chess events in these few years.

This is really beautiful. And I love the translation for defended and undefended pieces! Thanks!
