10 second time warning please

Please can we push for chess.com to introduce a 10 second time warning. We have one at a minute but not at 10 seconds. It would be a massive help for me personally and I'm sure for others who are playing live games with an increment where you can get low on time and keep building it back up.

I got a reply off chess.com and they have 30 second warning in blitz and 10 second in bullet. But I play rapid 15|10 and I want a 10 second warning in that. The lady said she would put the idea to the developers for me so fingers crossed .

I think the best idea may be adding a setting that customises warnings at any time you like, since different people may want it at different timings.

Would be better with multiple times supported, and even better if multiple sound effects can be assigned to different warning timings set.

Yeah hakuchuu I don't think that would be too difficult to do. When the lady I spoke too passes my suggestion onto the developers hopefully they'll do that.

Cirrin I'm always in 10 second time trouble on those games mate...So maybe the problem is me not the lack of sound effect ha, but I still want it and it would massively help me.

For the multiple sound effects, the idea comes from Go, which has a voice countdown every second whenever it drops below 10 seconds on the clock, which I find very convenient as I can focus on the board when low on time without having to glance at the clock at all.

Though this may be an overkill for chess so perhaps a different sound effect is good enough.

There is no such warning in OTB; monitoring the clock in time scrambles is very much part of the game. I think that online chess games should emulate real chess as closely as possible.

Well, emulating real chess is necessary just to a certain extent, not something to be done as closely as possible, or illegal moves shouldn't be stopped by the system, but come with a penalty if made and spotted, and the touch move rule should also apply (meaning you must move a piece that you clicked).

So for me, the additional warnings at different timings are just some nice features for online chess that improve your playing experience, just like what the warning already implemented at 20 seconds does.

I get your point Santoy and I've heard other people say that kind of thing. But I think it's fine for over the board and online to be very different things. If you can have extra things online like a time warning notification then why not! I don't aspire to be a strong OTB player I just enjoy playing online and trying to get to a decent ELO on here.
