"A healthy adult of average inteligence and average merit should be able to reach 1600 their first month"
I think, even for fairly clever peeps, reaching 1600 might take more than a month. Unless you spend that month living, breathing and eating chess and having the best coach in the world.
Why dont you get 1600 then?
How many years have you been playing chess?
Looking at the percentile rating, the average blitz score has been about 1050 and rapid is around 1100. The is a tendency of players to "overgeneralize"--which is a cognitive distortion--a chess score as an objective index of intelligence. Chess skill relies heavily on a few facets of intelligence: "mental rotation" and "pattern recognition", and is, moreover, a practiced skill There are other forms of intelligence such as verbal memory. There might not be much correlation between the ability of a doctor to memorize and accurately apply medical knowledge and that of a chess enthusiast to see the correct tactic at a glance. Among grandmasters, chess ability is known to decline after the age of 36, but we all know that is not the end of one's ability to learn new skills that are useful. Don't forget that an A.I. program downloaded to a simple cellphone can beat some of the world's best chess players.
Chess scores should not be used to generalize about a person's intelligence. While a higher than average number of chess players may very well be above average in intelligence, that may simply be due to the type of people attracted to chess. I have a good friend who is of average intelligence but plays chess like a wizard!
Where I went to high school, 25% could literally not read and the "calculus" teacher could not FOIL...how can you teach chess to these people??
i think all of you are grossly exaggerating the mental capacities of the average person
Then the average American needs to increase their IQ.
I started playing chess 4 months ago, I am already in my mid 20s am rated over 1500 and haven't drawn or lost a game yet. I would assume that 1000 is more than achievable for an average adult and that the average adult can go much higher than that.
You also are the only young woman in her 20s to ever use NBA shot scoring statistics as a way to make an analogy about something ...
I would just give it up. Nobody's buying this persona. You're not that good at this.

Jokes on you, I was a WNBA pro before I had to retire due to an eye disease.
Better luck with your next sockpuppet .
Its like that 800 to 1000 is bad 1000 to 1200 is ok 1200 to 1400 is good 1400 to 1600 is very good 1600 to 1800 is excelent and from 1800 to 2000 is an expert. From 2000 to 2200 is candidate master from 2200 to 2300 is a master, from 2300 to 2500 is an International master, 2500 to 2700 is a grandmaster and 2700 and above-you are a candidate for a new champion
Im 12 years old and i started playing chees st about 7 age. I didnt play a lot because i wasnt interested i chees. I played with my dad and i only knew how to move pieces. My dad was rated about 1300 and 1400 and he beated me every time even without a Queen. I watched how my father played snd then u started playing chees.com.I signed with 800 and my father showed me a little bit hoe the game works, like you must move knights snd bishops first. My rating was about 700 and a little bit lower. I wasnt interested at chees at all and i stoped playing it at age 8.then when i played against computer for joke i become interested in chees and i started playing it again at age. I chsllenged my father to rematch and he fought like:that kid who is nooby at chees challenged my ok lets destriy him😂. He was very suprised because at the end i almost beated him he was shocked. Then i became interested in chees and i started playing with my father snd we were somehowe very draw. Then i went to chees.com again and i easily reched 900 but at that rating i was stoped i couldn reach 1000 because i was nerveous. I was also very good at chees at school and i started destroying my friends. I started being interested in chees and i played with my friend who wat at regional chsmpionchip. I was beating him. I also reached rating 1000 when i was 11, 5. I started playing at chees club and i won tournament. I becomed very good and i was better. A candidate masters at chees club saw my potentional snd start training with me. I sure lost but i was good. I liked chees very much and I also reached 1100 as well. At puzzle rush i become a profesional. I started joking with my friend and i become excellent. I reached rating 1200 and i also qualyfie for regional chsmpionchip and i beated many strong players at school chsmpionchip. I was so talented and i was thinking lot moves in a future. Im now a lot better than my father and i become 3rd cstegory player at chees club. My combinstions and plans were amazing. For sn example i sacrifise then i check then i take and sacrifise and like that. And now im going for big regional chsmpionchip. Wish me the best of luck. My wish id to beat my grandfsther who was a 1st category player. I want to be st leats s csndidate master. Im. Know playing with my mom for joke and shes very weak. When i saw here stile of playing i remide me at 7 age
I know the OP was over 2 years ago, but 1000 as an average limit for adult learners? I can appreciate every new beginner rated 500-800 thinking that, but once you reach 1000, chess starts to click, and from there, you can definitely progress to the mid teens fairly quickly.
I started chess 10 months ago aged 28, and have went from 670 to 1550 in that time (blitz). I'll be disappointed if i'm not >1700 within the next year.
It depends on what average human we are talking about and theie theoretical and practical limit.
First of all, it seems as people self select to chess. An average active chess player should of course be able to reach 1000 or more both theoretically and IRL.
But the pool of chess players is a subgroup of the whole population. If you pick a random individual that has different strenghts maybe this individual wont get to 1000.
Everyone is using personal anecdotes while OP is interest in the average person. As there are many ways to define intelligence I think the question is poorly framed. As long as a person is learning new things then they will always get better. The difference between ratings is only how quickly people learn. Obviously there are exceptions at the extremes of a population pool, but given appropriate dedication anyone can meet their goals.
1000 is a low enough bar to clear that just about anyone should be able to clear it easily if they try. Many people don't try, and then ask why they haven't achieved their goals.
