Thats actually a really good idea, i never thought of that before
1200 rating

but then they could just lose a game, and have a rating under 1200, so maybe include a min. number of games played as well.

=) we do not play chess to get virtual trophies online - we play for the challenge. and besides, to play in a tournament, one has to play 5+ games first.

Most tournamants have a minimum game requirement, and there are other ways a new member can raise their rating.

The thing is, torneys require you to play 5 games to completion. So you would have to make a new account, play five games and sign up to win.
Im also pretty sure that they stop people from loging on with two accounts.

Ah, I never knew about about the 5 game policy... I often see 1200 ratings in tournys I play in...
Thanks for the info...

In official chess.com tournaments this has in the past been set to 10 games completed but the policy is inconsistent. The minimum game rule does not apply to premium members. A 1200 rated player with zero games played can enter official tournaments.
The default is 5 games completed for member-created tournaments. No exception for premium members. Tournament directors, especially those who have to attract 100 players, often change the games completed restriction to zero.
I always see the category in tournys 1000 - 1200. Or <1200. I think this should be changed to 1199 because it would stop people from making a new nick that has a 1200 ranking but are not actually new to chess.com and are much better then they lead you to believe.
Just a thought...
