I'm posting about this because some people were interested in my comment on another thread.

This player has 15000 games played and still a 750 rating in rapid. What could be the explanations for this?

I'm not posting the players name to maintain their anonymity

If he is having fun and enjoying chess, what is it to you?

Its just a question. I don't know if he is having fun that's why I'm asking for possible explanations.

Honestly, your defensiveness implies that there is something wrong with that player. I don't feel that way. Just interested in what people think may be happening here.

Me as an example, I am far from being a speed chess player but I’ll play blitz and bullet just so I can drink and move chess pieces for a good time.

What are the time controls of those 15k games?
ChessGrandMaster_Original

We are talking 10 minute games here. Per side

Lets say, on average, the rapid games last 12 mins. The user has played 15000 games.

This amounts to roughly 3000 hours or 125 days worth of in-game time spent playing rapid.

How is it possible that this user is still below the level of beginner?

Half his games were losses. So he would go up, then go down.

It’s not necessarily how much you play, but working on the right areas of chess and technique as well.

Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I would say they're practicing the same bad habits. You have to try to figure out where you're going wrong. Otherwise you just get really good at repeating the same mistakes. I see where you're going with this though. I wish it could be stopped.

I  am honestly just really surprised and in shock even that this is possible. I wonder if there is a user with an even worse hours-rating ratio.

Not sure what you mean by where I'm going with this though

He might only play and not study

ChessGrandMaster_Original

If we are being honest here:

He/she is a really good player and deserves our respect. Isn't it kind of rude to suggest they may not be studying? They seem dedicated to the game considering the 3000 hours of playtime.

Habanababananero

Why would you care about this persons rating or how many games they have played?

Why does it matter to you?

Why are you interested in finding out whatever it is you are trying to find out here?

It seems that the player isn’t focusing much and playing reflexively. They also might not go over their games after.

Playing speed chess (yes, 10 minute per side is still speed chess) to oblivion is in many cases insufficient for significant improvement.

But in any case, he might be just playing without even trying to get better. Maybe he just wants to play and doesn't care about improvement. happy.png

But they have the right to play as many games as they want. They deserve respect for their skills as a player

hopla1

He/she went up 26 points in a month. If the player can keep up this tempo he/she'll be a grandmaster in about 50 months happy
