I can’t believe it! I finally hit 2000 rapid rating. Originally this was my goal to get to this rating after 5 years of playing, but instead I reached it in less then a year! Now I am going to try and start playing more uscf rated games so I can get my rating up for that. Thanks to everyone in the forums who helped me with suggestions to improve.

Congratulations

Because of this milestone I will be hosting a chess tournament where the winners can get chess.com memberships for free. If anyone knows how to host this please let me know.

I also just hit 2000 rapid! It took me a bit over a year and a half to do so, which I thought was very fast. It seems extraordinarily impressive that you achieved it in a year. Congrats man! Also, does anyone know how long it normally takes to go from expert level to national master?

Thanks!

Idk about how it works OTB, but it took me only a few months to go from 2000 to 2300.

That's actually very, very impressive. Given that you have "only" played 4,000 games, this is probably one of the fastest rises that I have ever seen in chess. Well done! Curious to see where you'll end up in a year's time. I think 2300-2400 would be a realistic goal.

Thanks, but I don’t really know whether 2400 would be reasonable , but it is definetly a goal of mine.

2300 should definitely be possible, maybe even in a few months with your rate of improvement, but after that the cheating rate is extremely high (which is why i don't play rapid anymore), and i would recommend you to play maybe 5 min blitz instead if you reach 2300+. But enough said, congrats on 2000 and good luck on reaching 2300.

Is the progress really that linear as you move up in rating though? I know as far as otb is concerned it usually takes people about as long to make master as it took them to get to 2000. Maybe online is easier though idk

I once got up to 1000, but now seem to float between 700 & 800, am I going backwards? How can I improve? Please help!

Awesome happy.png I'm on the road to recovering my 2000 rating myself lol. I'm almost back to 1900 again, but still a while to get back to 2000. Nice that you are at 2000+ chess.com rapid though happy.png

it will be harder in otb to move up from lets say 2000 to 2200, and it will probably take a lot more time, but then again, it is only 200 rating gap compared to something like 1200-2000, and some people can just breeze right past. Progress depends on the person and how much effort they put, some people you feel they were at 2000 a week ago and now they are at 2500, while for others you feel like they still will be stuck at a certain rating long after you die.
