24 hours/move

I just resigned a 960 game as white on the second move.  When I accepted the game request, I erroneously assumed there was a reasonable amount of time and didn't bother checking.  After starting the game, I realized it was 24 hours per move.  Since I'm busy tonight and all day tomorrow due to a 20 hours at work, I realized it was either resign or lose on time.

Who actually has time for 24 hour chess?  I know 20 hours of work isn't normal, not even for myself, but don't people have friends, families, jobs, other hobbies, sleep, and/or meals that get in the way of these games?

To put it bluntly, you are responsible for all game challenges you accept. The option for 1 day/move is always there, just in case.

There are people here who go on every few hours of the day, every day, every month, every year...addicts, they are the ones who play 1 day/move. That, and those who want to get a quick preparation in for an OTB game.

Hence the resignation on turn 2, not a draw offer.

Yep, I'm just saying it for the public.

Didn't you just accept a 24 hour 960 game offer from me?

jingylima-OLD

Oh wait, now I know why there was one game missing.

Sorry about that.

Wanna play a 3day/move game instead?

After seeing this forum, I might have accepted any draw offers you gave me...

What a cavalier attitude.

I would guess that the vast majority of players spend less than 5 minutes thinking about each move. This is likely even more to be true for those playing 24hr/move online. So a few minutes a day isn't difficult to manage, especially if you can play on your phone when you're away from home.

Even if something comes up that will restrict you from accessing your games for a while, you can just use some of your vacation time.

I prefer playing 1-day per move chess.

1 day per move is a bit quick for me, sometimes even 48 hours per move is a bit quick if I'm busy and can't get online to check my games.  I prefer 3 to 7 day per move games.  I might even go a 10 day per move game, but I won't do any more 14 day games.

no time to make a move, but plenty of time to post on the forums... hmmm, that's interesting Surprised

i only play 24 hr per move games--in fact that's the only criteria i have for accepting a challenge.  i wish they also had a 12 hr. per move option, because the short time control is how i can remember my plan or strategy for a particular game.  but i play through my phone app a lot, so when i have a few free moments i check if there are any moves to be made.

i know that everyone plays for different reasons, but if i can generalize, i would say that at our level (yours and mine) it's more important improvement-wise to play a lot of games, see a lot of positions on the board, try a lot of experimental combinations and practice zeroing in fairly quickly on a few workable options for your next move, than to be very heavily invested in time and effort on just one game.

Vacation time!  I forgot that I'm a premium member and it starts automatically, so I would have been able continue.

jingy, lets compromise and do 2 days/turn!
