Are you a Flatlander or something?
2d vs 3d chess

While on vacation, I bought me the set below, just to test the idea:
The only issue is that the "pieces" are a bit too large for square size.

You should try out this, I have one and it's very cheap ($6), very nice, and very compact. No larger than a checkbook:

Once you are familiar with the game of 3D chess (after playing about 3 games), many have said they would never go back to a flat board chess again. All that is needed, is a piece of plastic supported by some books or something like that over top of the game board you already are using. Of course use markers or tape to show where the squares are.
Here are the visual set of rules for 3D chess:

Go have game and tell about it. In fact keep track of the game using chess notation: (Aa1 - Ba1 rook moving down one square).

Where did you get this from and what is it called? Im interested in purchasing one :p

A "bit" too large? I'd say that is an understatement. It doesn't appear you can even see the squares at all when a piece is on it.
Another example of a very poor design, probably by someone who has no actual interest in the game.

A quick search revealed one site... the USCF.

Just $4.95, not counting whatever they are going to charge you for shipping. I have one myself, but in all honesty, I really don't use it very much. If I started carrying it around with me, maybe I would use it more often.

That look's good

I prefer the 2d board on regular games, but 3d can be nice when you play endgame puzzles ect. the less pieces, the better 3d is ...

I play both 2D and 3D by email at the same time.
Take a look at how it is done (move your mouse over the green dotted links at the linke below) I am White in both of these games:
This is one of 2D games at move 14:
The 3D game I'm playing at move #14:

I prefer the 2D board, I find it easier to see everything. But that might be because I've played/studied more online with the 2D style, than OTB. I need to get used to the 3D pieces...
Which one do you prefer, I pulled out the old chess board today because I was bored and I wanted to check some stuff out. I realised Immediately how much I prefer a 2d board over a 3d one.
I never actually play otb chess though. So what is your opinion? especially curious what people who play both online and otb think.
Also, both xiangqi and shogi have flat pieces, which I think is much more easy to oversee,
