3 days PER MOVE ?? RIGHT??

I notice some players get very impatient even though they agree to a game that states 3 days PER MOVE.. perhaps they have trouble comprehending... but it is there in black and white... if they want a fast game go to CHESS LIVE. Well I am lost for words of explanation, I spend 3 hours on chess DAILY but am sick of being prompted to "MOVE" by players whose timezone means they are up and I am down, to keep it simple. Well my latest reply is "Yes dear, I have 2 days 23 hours, and 45 minutes and 8 seconds before I HAVE to move." Am I WRONG???? Anyone to challenge??Cool

justjoshin

yeah, it's correspodence chess, i don't mind if a player takes days to move, what annoys me is when they drop a piece and then go from moving 5 times a day to moving once every 2 days and 23 hours. oh well, the games will finish eventually, and it is within the rules, just poor sportsmanship.

but if someone was bugging me to move before i was ready... i'd be tempted to spend a bit longer on the analysis board, going a bit deeper though some variations, making SURE that the move i made was solid :-P

Disable chat.  :)

I try to accomodate a newbie to the site, by laughing it off and pointing out the 3 days/move limit and the fact that I'm in umpteen games, and ask them to be patient. After that, if it continues annoyingly, I'm inclined to disable the chat box.

I'm often not fussed, I just cannot stand it when, as "justjoshin" said, the opponent's activity drops because the game has swung out of their favour.
On a previous site I used to play on, I had an opponent who was eager with each turn, but as I began to build an advantage, he'd only move merely MINUTES before time. So we ended up moving once every 3 days. Literally.

And if that isn't enough, he resigned the move before I would've mated him. There are some unpleasant people around here, I can assure you.

Monica, don't let it get to you. If they become too annoying, don't even look at the chat tab. Just make your moves in your time limit. if they have a problem with that it's tough on them. In a 3 day time limit you have up to 71 hours & 59 minutes to make your move.

When your winning the game and his position is bad message him to hurry up each time it's his turn to move see how he likes it.

The kind of impatient/rude people you speak of flower are know as just that, rude and impatient! I have dealt with these rude and impatient jerk's too, and this is the way I like to handle them, first I disable the ability to chat with them, and second I try to use up every minute I can making the game last as long as I possibly can. You can imagine the frustration they are going thru because they cant chat with you and hurry you up or be rude to you etc. More time's than not they will put you on their ignore list or resign do to there frustration/anxiety. I try to imagine them cursing & cussing at their monitor, it alway's make's me smile/chuckle. Have a patient day and smile at people, trust me, it is contagious.Wink

As far as timing out, I've found that 90% of greeter games time out, most with only one or two moves, but some when, (and if), the tide of the game has turned in my favor. This has been discussed at length in other threads.

If an opponent takes 2 days, 23 hours and 59 minutes to move, let 'em. I won't let that psych me out or anger me. If a regular game times out, especially if I have the advantage, so what? It's on them...they're admitting the loss. So be it. Move on.

I had a guy do that to me with a 30 day limit on another website. The game started in February and finished in October.  He's just trying to maximise his odds of taking a win on time, in the hope that you get bored and don't make another move.  I just laughed it off because the only way that was gonna happen was if I dropped down dead.

Thanks for your feedback. I can see both sides . Great game which many different people play, the patient and the LESS than patient. I suppose those wishing the faster games can set their game conditions to 24 hours per move rather than 3 days (I have never taken even that long) Chess goes with a cup of coffee in the morn and and a nightcap scotch before the day is doneWink. Anymore CHESS and I will have to seek the help of CHESS REHAB!

Help? Rehab? for what? :-) no rehab is required for chess! :-)

Anyway, yeah, try not to let folks bother you with that. You are correct, you have three days to move, and you can take as much of that as you want. If someone wont stop bugging you about it, disable chat, and maybe even block them.

Hmmm...they could message you, but of course you can block them or just ignore their nonsensical comments. It's a small matter anyway, so there is no point harping about it.

Not that I am harping about the matter, I'm just giving my advice.

I had one player that was typing in MOVE MOVE MOVE and we were playing a live 15 minute 10 second bonus game.  This is the kind of person that probably couldn't wait to heat up his food in the mircowave.  You really have to have patience for a three day per move game.

prashanth21

lol you are facing problem with only 3days/move, for me it is 14days/moveTongue out.

Lighthead

I think you're completely right. As you know, when I play with you; I take a really long time. Why don't they reject the game because of the time, and propose another game with a different time. Hello, is anybody in there?! You know what I mean. People nowadays want everything fast.

My simple suggestion to you is to disable chat and use the time your given, and most important of all...HAVE FUN AND ENJOY!
