4-player chess: Pawn orientation

Sort:

Hello there, I've been trying 4-player chess and it's been great fun.

However, we thought with a group of friends that maybe each side could have its pawns facing their heads towards the direction of forward movement, because we found that each of us got confused and sometimes missed pawn movements for not being explicitly clear where each pawn moved to.

This is how it looks now (focusing on the player on the right). All pawns look upwards

This is how we thought it might look like. Any piece can move towards any side, but pawns have a forward direction of movement. Therefore, to clarify its forward direction, pawns could point their heads towards it.

I know it's technically easy to find out which side pawns move to, but from our experience, we found it somewhat confusing on the new board configuration of 4 players. Maybe it's a tiny detail, and probably we miss it because we are so noobs, but we thought anything that helps the player visually, also helps the game, since brains can account more easily where pawns move towards.

Just one example:

In this position, from the player's point of view. My friend (blue) didn't see that my pawn (red pawn on d4) eats his queen. Things like these happened a few times to each of us
