To give some more info:
I was above 25 yrs when I joined chess.com. And as I said, I had almost no knowledge or experience of chess before. My training routine involved 10-20 tactics per day and 1-2hr of blitz games. I mostly played 5 min blitz games. And maybe some 'study' during weekends. My review of my games was also minimal and involved going through the games quickly to identify the turning point of the game. My review of 5 min blitz games takes around 30 secs. I don't bother with computer analysis generally. I have been playing 2-1 bullet also recently. Also, rapid games once or twice a week in recent times. These things also seem to have had positive effects.

Nice job. My improvement was very similar. I started playing around the time you did, and have improved from 1100 to 1900ish

Congratulations, Ashvapathi! You are pretty good at thinking fast. Do you wonder how well you would do at slow chess....over the board with 1 hour for 40 moves or correspondence chess with up to 3 days to make a move?

delcarrpenter,
thanks. I think my rating in slower time controls would be 200-300 points higher i.e. about 1900-2000. But, the main worry for me is to be able to concentrate for that long on a single game as I am not very used to that format. It may take me a few games to get used to it.

that's some improvement for someone with little or no experience (in 3 years),
Good Job👍

Thanks IMBacon.

Congratulation on gaining 1000 points. Doing tactics everyday help you improve a lot, this is probably why you gain so many rating points.

Secondly, off congrats on the improvement hope it continues for you
I've known how to move the pieces since I was about 4 (10yrs ago, guess how old I am) I only started learning things about 6 months ago. I realised that giving away pieces left right and center wasn't the way to go and since then my rating has started to climb a little. Now after watching some videos on here and on YouTube I've decided to get a few beginnerish books to study and some games by the older chess legends. Hope I can improve like u have and congrats.
P.S. can u shout me a coffee, cause I really need one right now, thanks....😀🙏

Then, I started playing rapid here. But, I was losing those games on time, so I decided to play blitz. And my blitz rating dropped to 700 from 1200 indicating my skill at the time. Now, 3 yrs later, I have achieved 1700 in blitz. So, 1000 points in 3 yrs. That is about 335 points per year.
wait, so because you lost RAPID games on time, you decided to play a shorter time control (aka, blitz) ?

I had a look at one of your games, and I would say that you would benefit from longer time controls because I saw some beginner style blunders, leaving material en prise including giving away your queen. There is only one good explanation for this for an experienced player and that's you are having to play too fast. However if you enjoy this style than that's what matters, but it's simply better not to be so rushed that you don't leave things hanging, it's game over right there.

Mitsud,
thanks. I started visiting chess.com from Nov, 2013. At that time, I used to solve the daily puzzle. I registered at chess.com in Jan, 2014. I registered for the tactics trainer. So, I continued with tactics without playing any games. I think I started playing games in Feb, 2014. 3 yrs later in 2017, I have gained 1000 points indicating my progress.

I started with 1200 nominal rating when I started playing on the site 3 yrs ago. I lost lot of games and reached my actual rating of 700. From there, I managed to gain 1000 rating points in 3 yrs with steady improvement.
To give some background info, I had no idea about chess before I joined chess.com. I joined after I saw world chess championship held in India in 2013. Initially, I used to just solve daily puzzle of chess.com. Then, I started doing tactics trainer.
I haven't really read any chess books so far (except Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess). But, I do watch YouTube videos on chess.
