Can anyone tell me how to get my winning percentage to 80% wins 20% loses.

BadPlayerEasyToBeat
Win more games, duh
yrewol

seriously can anybody tell me a good strategy?

David

You can’t. The nature of the rating system is that as you win games, your rating goes up so you are paired against stronger opponents and should settle at where you are winning about 50% of your games.

You can’t lower your rating without losing games. 80% is only possible when you first join the site in the first 20 or so games before your rating stabilises.

How? Solve for Rb in this formula.
0.8 = 1 / (1 + 10^( (Rb-Ra) / 400))

Where Ra is your rating and Rb is your desired opponents' rating. Then only play games against players with an Elo rating of Rb or lower.

See Elo Rating System. Actually, chess.com uses the Glicko rating system, but you get the point. Beat up on weaker players. @David is correct. The rating system is designed to get you competitive games. Until you're among the world's best players, expect to win 50% of your games.

His account is fairly new, and sub 200 games isn't a lot. He likely is still climbing to his true strength and his rating hasn't stabilized yet. There's not a "way to increase your win ratio to 80%", it just doesn't work that way. Just focus on improving and playing your game.

Assuming fair play, then ANYONE consistently playing opponents around their level should be only about 50% win and 50% loss (give or take some for draw%). This is true even for GMs playing similarly rated GMs.

The only way to win 80% consistently would be to play opponents lower rated than you frequently; this would inflate the win percentage, but not be helpful for long-term improvement.

Mathematically, to win roughly 80% of the time, you would need to consistently play opponents 241 rating points below you (this would give an estimated win percentage of 80.02%).

You can mess around with an elo win rate calculator if you wanted to calculate similar specifics: https://sandhoefner.github.io/chess.html

There are 80 million members of this site that play rapid games regularly. Do you think by asking a question in a forum someone will reveal a secret technique? Don't you think if it was that easy some of those 80 million members would have exploited the technique? But take that to its logical conclusion... everyone would do it. Which implies the rating system has zero predictive ability. But we know from experience the rating system does have predictive ability- not perfect, but it's very good. You're arguing for nonsense. If you win 80% of your games your rating will go up... until it doesn't anymore... because you're evenly matched.

Why are you asking how to do it? Isn't it obvious how to win 80% of your games? I already provided one answer: Beat up on weaker players just like the Elo rating gap predicts you should. There's only one other answer: sandbag. Which is considered rating manipulation and is against this site's rules.

[removed -- MS] Was losing to 700 players 3 months ago….

yrewol

I just asking a simple question … how do I do it like him ?

yrewol

Just watched him cheat Excuse me … can’t say that on here …. Just watched him beat someone else

David
Sandbagging doesn’t increase your win % because you have to lose a bunch of games in order to lower it. Someone might lose games they don’t care about in order to win a tournament but it’s not going to change your overall win %

Choosing to play people rated way lower then you regularly is the only way to do it, but you can’t use the auto matching for that - you’d have to manually choose those sort of open seeks.

But it seems the OP is really accusing someone else of cheating, which is going to be redacted and get this thread locked. Maybe they are a return cheater but the fair play team will take care of it soon enough - public accusations are not allowed

Around April 10th is when he said …. I’ll just cheat

yrewol

Chess.com won’t do anything about it. But really I want to know how to win like that 🤣

yrewol

Shame I had to post it this way
