A Film Script about chess

Hello, my name is Alex, I am co-writting a script about chess,

The low down is, A boy plays against his uncle's rival.

The rivial would beat his uncle in chess and when the sudden loss of this boys uncle happens. The wish for the uncle to beat his rival is the catalist to this boy trying/ practicing to beat this rival. The rival is cocky and full of himself but was close friends as well to the uncle who passed and sees great potential in the boy but doesn't give him free wins/at all.

The question I have for this forum is,

What are some ways you guys practice? Do you read book on chess? If so can you tell me any good names? or do you do some other kind of medium of practice? Maybe you just play until you understand.

Also the draft script is in early status right now. So who this rival is, in assocation to the uncle is unknown. The script is written but with many holes.

So an idea of seniority or local levels of how do I say chess policy and govt titles of that in the chess world would be nice. Who do you rival? Maybe they are just friends but if you have a cool idea about who can paralel as a rival in the chess comunity that would be awesome!!!!! Thanks :D

In general, reality is pretty boring so if you want an interesting and/or exciting chess film script that will be more Hollywoodish, more along the lines of "Searching for Bobby Fischer," I'd recommend looking at some cutting edge things going on instead of what the majority of players are typically doing.

Here are some ideas:

(1) One member here (eastyz) is working on a cutting-edge tactical system that blows everybody else away, and he has the Tactics Trainer rating to prove it. (https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/chess-theory5) The film hero could come into contact with such a person, and get a huge advantage that way, and that is a realistic scenario.

(2) Similarly, I'm working on some ideas of my own, such as default moves (https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-openings/determination-of-default-moves-in-a-given-opening) and classification of tactics (http://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/list-of-tactics-from-palatnik-amp-alburt). Although in current form these are not nearly as exciting as a tactical system, they are cutting edge and the tactical study is partly aiming at discovering new types of mates, which will produce a system similar to eastyz's, which would tremendously aid in tactics.

(3) Use some ideas from the recent YouTube video on quantum chess (https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/quantum-chess-1) for how to make a good chess film. That's a very cute, well-done video that uses a classic book for learning chess that most players will recognize (Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess), uses a classic and dazzling early checkmate type (Legal's Mate), and has a cool, high-tech graphical chess program.

(4) Computer programs are state-of-the-art in chess, and are a lot more powerful, efficient, and reliable way of learning, in contrast to playing against humans or learning from books, so I would emphasis learning by computer. There are many possible variations on this, such as tactics training, potentially great new openings the computer could discover, and possibly there exist new methods of training in visualization (a very realistic scenario, though I don't believe any such programs current exist), and new patterns that computers could discover that humans simply haven't noticed yet (a program that detects such patterns is also a realistic scenario in machine learning circles).
(5) I jokingly alluded to a secret chess society in eastyz's thread (https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/chess-theory5), and there was some good discussion about how masters don't share their secret systems or methods, so that would be a fascinating angle, also fairly realistic. There must exist some incredibly advanced chess knowledge out there that is kept secret, so a fascinating story script would involve the discovery of such a secret society, maybe getting involved in it, and learning those secrets.

I hope that helps. Good luck with your script.
