Aborting Queen Pawn Openings

Playing white at my ~1000 rating, I notice many players abort after I open with queen's pawn. I don't know if they don't want to play black or if they don't want to play a queen pawn opening. Either way, it seems like bad sportsmanship. How can we stop this behavior?

Players that abort too often as a percentage of completed games get restricted.

If you don’t mind an unrated daily game, I’ll play against d4. I would actually like to play against d4 for practice. I’m rated similar to you.

Those kinds of player won't ever improve. I play mostly as a guest, rather than in account. I used to mainly play 1. d4 and lots of players would abort. I tend to play 1. e4 now (not because of this issue) and find that many less players abort. I think that they fear or don't like the positional kinds of game that 1. d4 is more likely to produce. These are a subset of the same set of players who always play the Giuoco Piano rather than the Ruy Lopez because they don't understand or get bored with the deeper strategic nature of many variations of the RL. They've no soul!!

Sea_TurtIe

as a person who used to abort when facing d4 i can explain why...

i am a Nf6 player who expects 2.c4

you guys play 2.Bf4, 2.f4,2.Nc3 (not as bad) which we get tired of facing EVERY GAME

all my my lichess game ever have been 2.Bf4 or one of the others i mentioned

Sea_TurtIe

and at least in e4 we can fight for an advantage, the london simply does not allow that, nor does 2.f4 or Nc3 (regardless of them giving ¨equality

there are moves to play against the london that keep the game going, many london players dont even know about at 1000 rating, I agree the london is an annoying opening, but you can play the Benoni against 1d4 which comes as a surprise to most of the london players as they get completely lost when you play it, so there are many ways to avoid the london afted d4

Sea_TurtIe

yeah the old benoni is trash tho

alot of blacks play revolves around pressuring the e pawn this just removes all of that at the cost of avoiding the london

AND WHITE CAN JUST PLAY 2.c3!!!

CrystalChandeliers

Yawn ...

Sea_TurtIe

¨you´ve to know this, if ¨you´ve¨ to speak english you should know the perfect

deadaccountGM

my rating is very low like 200 to 300 but even in my rating range queens pawn openings get aborted

If I was (or does the grammar police insist that it is 'were'?) to correct all your punctuation, this thread would get very boring.

Don't play the queen's pawn opening /j

It’s even worse when you play c4 lol they just malfunction

Sea_TurtIe

yeah nobody plays 2.c4 below 1900 level

Sea_TurtIe

ive played agianst the queens pawn in many lichess games and this is usually how it goes

Sea_TurtIe

i would be fine with the london, colle, or stonewall

but when its 95% of my games it gets very annoying and irritating

the

Probably because most players at these low elos like 900-1400 like playing win quick opening traps and most of them come in e4 so they abort.

And if it's not that then people just dont know any opening theory against d4 as black just like me .

Sea_TurtIe

blue: c4

red:Bf4

yellow:Nc3

bright blue: colle

purple: trompowsky

brown: stonewall

took the stats and this is what i ended up with, now you can understand why lower level people abort against d4, they get sick and tired of the london
