Absurd Tactics Ratings

memorization. they get to 3000 and there aren't many puzzles up there so they memorize them to raise their rating

I have always understood that much but I have never understood why other sites do not see such crazy tactics ratings when chess.com supposedly has the largest set of puzzles.

Yeah. That is just the way they are giving points for puzzles. If you get one right, there is some minimum of points you will get (if I am not wrong). That way if someone memorize many puzzles, that person will just go up. It would be much better that you get 0 after a while, if the puzzle is so much lower rated than your rating, but it doesn't seem that is the case.

oh, I see. That kinda stinks

I think they just memorize the puzzles and after 3000 it usually stays around the same difficulty (Still really hard) so.. if you ever watched Benjamin Bok do puzzle rush he goes up to 4000++ and the tactics don't get much harder I think that's why people have crazy tactics ratings.

I think that is the case, but I am not 100% sure, though that is the only plausible explanation.
And I agree, it should be much better if you can't get to those insane numbers.

You can see the #1 guy just does tactics every day and for every tactic correct its another 5 points

oh, I see. kinda defeats the purpose of solving puzzles but ok

I know someone who is a 1900 with a 4000 puzzle rating who is in the top 150 (until she reset her puzzles for no reason lol)

Puzzle ratings aren’t like normal ratings, i’m a 1300 with a 2300 puzzle rating, and because people can have like a 20,000 puzzle rating I think at some point the puzzles stop getting harder or something.

I dont think lichess has a leaderboard for tactics ratings. So there might be people with huge ratings but we just don't see them. There also isn't as much incentive for people to spend hundreds of hours memorizing puzzles on lichess, when nobody will see them at the top of any learderboard.

yeah typically puzzles are at least 500 higher than other ratings

You are wrong. The puzzle rating is basically a rating based of your pattern recognition. Your pattern recognition is 2300, but your endgame or opening tactics can be very bad.
yeah, tactics are not indicative of your real strength
I was checking out my puzzle stats as I reached my all-time high of around 2700, when I noticed that the top puzzle ratings are in the ten thousands! There's guys with 60000 rating and 50000 rating. How is this possible?
