Account being investigated for "Fair Play Violation"?

I've played 36 games. I've lost 19 of them. More than I have won. WTF are they investigating? They think I am cheating and losing more games than I am winning?

This site is so stupid.

You think I would cheat and purposefully lose? What exactly would be the point of that?

^, I don't think that they would aware you if they were investigating. but im new here

People have been mad at me for various reasons... some of them say they'll report me. I'm sure I've been reported for cheating dozens of times over the years (this is a new account but I've played here for 13 years).

I've never received a message that I'm being "investigated" lol

... but I've also never been closed for cheating, so I guess I can't know for sure heh.

I'll start cheating just to be sure

Do you play via app or website? Are you using an e-boards?

I've seen people say they've gotten this warning every once in a while, most often in a post on Reddit. I don't know what circumstance would trigger it.

OP can clear it up with a screenshot... this type of poster rarely provides evidence though

When I try and join a tournament it tells me I can't because my account is being investigated for Fair Play violations, smartass

And no I did not cheat why would anyone cheat at a free online chess game with literally nothing on the line? WTF is the point? You get nothing if you win and lose nothing if you lose.

@littletoytv lots of people cheat on chess.com, that doesn’t mean you are. Chess.com’s FairPlay team also monitors other violations like sandbagging, which you might be being investigated for instead. Also, if your play is simply suspicious because you’re underrated, you might be investigated too (though it would have to be considerably noticeable). Normally, though, it’s done with good reason - and the community have seen plenty of people complaining about being under investigation here and then go on to be banned because they were cheating, so please don’t be surprised if people tease you a little bit. Hope that helps :)

Also where’s my boy @martin_stahl to come lock this thread for discussion of cheating? You’re slow on the uptake today ;)

Oh no, not the ChessBI.

Did you enter a tournament shortly after getting really tilted and losing a chunk of rating?

It could have looked on the outside like you were sandbagging. Unfortunately there's no real way to tell.

Perhaps in future don't enter tournaments until you've fully gotten back to your usual rating after a big episode of tilt.

I can't enter a tournament, because I'm being investigated for cheating.

I got banned once because I “abandoned too many games”. I try not to play too many games now because I don’t know what happened one day. So basically I was playing chess here, as usual. Then, the chess.com app suddenly closed itself and when I open it again the game was gone. I checked my records and it says I abandoned the game… But there was nothing I could do about it, so I got banned for a week.

You might have abandoned/ resigned to many games, I checked your profile and there are a few games that were abandoned

But did you at some point have an extremely bad tilt? Someone on Lichess got flagged up as cheating because he had a 20 game losing streak.

App and Website. I have no idea what an e-board is.

I'm not saying there aren't cheaters on here, I'm saying I am being treated like a cheater when I am clearly not cheating. Look, if I was a 500 rated player who went on a stunning run of 30 wins in a row to get to 1300 elo, yeah, that's pretty suspicious. But that didn't happen. I'm a low tier player that has always been rated in the mid 500's and have a win/loss rate of right around 50/50. Who in the world would cheat and maintain their rating and a 50/50 win loss rate? The entire point of cheating is to win when you otherwise would not, and I'm clearly not doing that.

> You might have abandoned/ resigned to many games, I checked your profile and there are a few games that were abandoned

I don't recall ever abandoning a game, some opponents have abandoned on me but that shouldn't get me investigated

> Did you enter a tournament shortly after getting really tilted and losing a chunk of rating?

I have never been able to join a tournament

piedraven

Okay. Did you at some point have a REALLY bad tilt and go on a ridiculously long losing streak? Because that can sometimes get falsely flagged up as sandbagging. It happened to someone on Lichess although thankfully they only got a warning.

LittleToyTV

> He thought it was hilarious, literally laughing it off.

If I could still join tournaments and dint have to wait 5 minutes to get paired in a game I wouldn't care either. So no it's not "funny" you dolt

piedraven

Dude we're trying to help.

One more time.

Did you have an extremely bad case of tilt at some point and go on a protracted losing streak? That can get flagged as sandbagging.
