Account closure- Different symbols and their meanings

Sort:
nimzomalaysian

During my stay here in Chess.com, I've come across many closed accounts. I've noticed that all these accounts don't have the same symbol next to them. Actually there are 3 different symbols that are used to represent closed accounts, shown below.

                                            null

So, what does each symbol mean?

Which one do you like to have?

Well Urk has the first symbol while Cherub has the second symbol. This got me thinking.

Think more Dr. Watson

I was actually thinking of giving you a second chance. But you sir have earned your block. Have fun.

One means it was closed by the user.  Another one means it was closed by the site.  I'm guessing the 3rd one is a cheating icon.  I have no idea which is which sad.png

These aren't much more than guesses, but i'd like to think they're somewhat educated ones:

The gray X is when you close your own account...

The red X is when your account is closed for some sort of violation...

The red 'no symbol' is when your account is closed for a non-violation, like an extended amount of inactivity...

Or not.

Mmm, if you see the sign it also states the reason...

The red X is for abuse in the forums and stuff like that --- saying big bad words, or saying that down kids should be aborted will get you that icon.

The other one is for fair play violations... sandbagging or c-word. Cherub deliberately sandbagged as if there was no tomorrow.

The last one is when the user closed the account himself, just because he felt like it, and not because he broke some rule.

@pdela is a prime example of the last one, MAY YOU REST IN PEACE GRANDPA.

I see a ton of the 'no symbols' in really old threads, though, and every time i've clicked on one of those profiles, it simply says "Account Closed" (with no mention of 'Fair Play') which would give credence to my above guess about these being accounts of people who just left and never came back...

I'm pretty sure that every time i've seen 'Fair Play Violation' noted as the reason, that it was also with a red X, like with 'Abuse'...but i can't be positive.

  • x ... indication for an entirely closed account
    • Gray ... initiated by the user itself
    • Red ... forced by chess.com due to breaking something strange called TOS
  • the other red sign ... indication for a disabled account --> the same symbol is also used for "disable chat", so the meaning could be the account is not entirely closed just disabled. According to chess.com it's possible to reactivate an account (for example after accusations were proved wrong). Means that symbol is to be used in case the account should be able to get reactivated.

But ... I'm not 100% sure!

That is because in the old times they only used a symbol, and were too lazy to change it, that is why old accounts just say account closed.

Old accounts and new accounts use the same workflow / same implemented logic, there's no reason to differ, would be way more work.

Are you on drugs? This new edition of chess.com must have a parameter in the class which states the reason, the old version did not have that parameter so there is no information to display now that it has been updated.

Short was right. GET REKT.

I am all ears, ready to hear you admit defeat.

I could be wrong but I'm thinking it evolved. In V1, it was just account closed. In V2, people wanted to know if the member or the site closed it. In V3, people want to know if the account was closed for abuse in the forums, or cheating in a game.

No, I'm not on drugs, feeling fine just little bit hungry. Thx for asking.

Your explanation is not wiping out my argument that the workflow most likely doesn't differ amongst older and newer user, there is no reason for this. I don't question your entire answer but this point doesn't make sense at all.

Brendan_UK

 🚫 = Closed: *Fair Play.

*I've only seen this 'Fair Play', but sometimes (probably older) no reason is given.

No, the workflows are the same, I never questioned that, however you were inducing that because the version is the same, old accounts should also state reasons...
