Adding Games to SCID database

Hello everyone,

I am wanting to set up a database of just the games that I have personally played. The current programs that I am working with is SCID vs PC. I can import files into SCID just fine, but when I got to add them to the database that I've created, the "Add Game" button under the Games tab is not clickable. It's just light grey. I can add the games that I input to the program fine, and those will be added. I particularly face trouble when the PGN comes from chess.com.

1) Is SCID vs PC a good program to do this on? Would Arena be better?

2) Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for your help!

If you haven't already, you need to create a new database to save in. When you first launch the program, the same nly thing that is available is the Clipbase which is a temporary session database.

I have made a new database. Here is a list of steps that I have been following.

1) Open Databse

2) Open PGN

3) Games-->Add Game

4) "Add Game" button will not work

5) Get annoyed.

Add Game should add any game you have open into the selected database. I just tested in the Clipbase and it worked. You can also use New Game and make your moves or import a PGN, then Save.

You can use the Windows > Game List to change what the selected database is:

AtaChess68

I use Tools/import pgn file

You can select and import as many files as you want at the same time.

I took me about two days (and some frustration) to get used to the program but now it’s by far the most valuable factor in my progress.

Biggest frustration those first days were loosing annotations, games and whole databases because I didn’t save stuff the right way.

Thank you for your help Martin_Stahl and AtaChess. In the end, I just opened the database and the pgn. Then, under the window, I just dragged the PGN onto the database. A window pops up that says "copy to DB?" and I clicked yes. So far, that seems to work!
