Advice for novice running a club

Hi all.

I'm starting a chess club at the school I teach, and many of the interested students signing up "want to learn how to play."  I want them to enjoy the game and get better--any advice for a coach/club advisor in this situation?  Anything from things to watch for to suggested topics to study to quality beginner books and puzzles... thanks so much!

My first suggestion was going to be a cash bar, but that's probably not legal at school.

hahaha noooo the chess is supposed to be a diversion from that but duly noted, sir :)

I'd start with some boards, pieces, and a detailed set of rules.  That's plenty to have fun, I think.
