alternative to chess titans

I would like an alternative to Chess Titans, preferably free.  I am not even a club player but am not horrible. The Chess Titans on my computer will no longer let me play black (who knows why), and it uses en passant wrongly, i.e., it does not let me take the passing pawn.  Also, the opponent can use en passant, but I cannot.  This really annoys me, and I cancel the game immediately.  (I do not care about score statistics.)  I want some other game that is easy to operate and lets me play at various levels - not interested in earning my way up to different levels, although I wouldn't rule that out if it is a good program. My computer is running on Windows 7.  Thanks.

I would suggest playing real people on this site. Carbon-based chess engines are much more fun.

What's a carbon-based chess engine?  How would I play someone?

You could try "PLAY" at the top of the screen. A carbon-based chess engine is a term I just made up for a human chessplayer.

You can play the chess computer here for free.  One of the chess.com members wrote an online chess program at http://www.checkmypages.com/chess/ but it seems like the link doesn't work at the moment.  If you have a DOS emulator like DOSBox, you can download old DOS chess games like the old Chessmaster 2000 or 2100.  Personally, though, I think it's worth paying $20 to download Chessmaster XI.

were can we download the DOS or DOSBox emulators.
