Any chess clubs in London?

Hi everyone. I'm in London this week, seems a quiet place. Pls would you recommend any chess clubs I could go to? Thanks.

Have you tried Google?

irishwaterspaniel

So you don't know either?

Google doesn't recommend places, because Google isn't a chess player. Your trust in big tech is quite sweet but also a little bit concerning.

But thank you for taking the time to reply to something that you don't know anything about. Although that's what you are well known for doing.

Based on your lazy cut and paste job, which do you recommend? And why?

Serious answer only please.

Are you a complete imbecile? You have just been given a list of at least a dozen active chess clubs in London and the best you can do is sneer stupidly? You are giving both the Irish and Water Spaniels a bad name

No clue.  When i went to London to visit my daughter, she told me "no chess dad"

Not really Matty. Google can be helpful or alternatively extremely unhelpful if posting out of date information. Always good to get a personal recommendation from a human, but I wrongly posted in this forum rather than the correct one, so my error. Ta to all who responded.

Most of the clubs listed above will only meet for match fixtures. There aren’t many places that you can just drop in and play.

There’s a place called Casual chess (central London near Tottenham Court Road) which meets some weekday evenings but the one time I went, it didn’t have many players, and the few that were there were very weak (no disrespect to them, just being factual).

I think battersea chess sometimes has social stuff on but not sure what’s on this week.

I rarely, if ever, stumble across people playing somewhere.

Sorry to not be of more help :-(

On the contrary, yours is the most helpful post so far.

Muswell Hill Chess Club meets every Tuesday evening in north London and is friendly. Visitors welcome.

Friendly unless you are female that is - in which case do not allow anyone to shake your hand at the end of the match because of what they might do to it
