Anyone else sad Pogo Chess is gone?

I used to fool around in the chats in there under many different screen names and say that masters were actually masterios. I remember some beginners were actually masters in disguise. Usually, on a boring Sunday afternoon, I would do my peddler spiel in the chats. I had many screen names there, including one named sakajewea45. I miss that place wholeheartedly and wish they brought it back so I can once again hang out there on a lazy Sunday afternoon and mess up the chats!

I used to be "BattleChess" there.

I remember with the font they were using, a capitol L and the number 1 looked the same, so people would spoof your name and you couldn't tell who was was, lol.

I was LilSnottlynose and LilDumbDumb. I miss whooping up on people like DirtyMac who always talked trash.

I really loved Pogo - chess! feel so sad it is gone!

The sounds when you make a move, the sounds when you capture a piece, the fact that your puppet changes colour the higher your rating gets made me feel very happy. It was the first thing I did when I got home from school or work or even on long weekend nights (when noone wanted to go to town) I played on Pogo for hours! with the telly in the background.

It was one of my personal missions to get a red coloured puppet instead of purple.

I really miss pogo. If it were completely up to me pogo -chess would come back just as it was!

I just don't understand why these websites have to disappear at all when they had a thriving fan base still. I don't get why chess.com keeps closing sites instead of just having that site under their control. I'd much rather chess24 than chesskid.

I've been playing Pogo for about twenty years now. I must have played a few thousand games. I discovered chess through this site. I liked the colour codes, the tables and the graphic interface. However, this site is not lacking. I miss ChessCube, which has also disappeared. On Pogo there were quite a few bugs, haters and worst of all, of course, a few cheats. But I had a good time, particularly with a certain Riverunt.

Yesss! I learned how to play chess on pogo. I loved how you could make your own tables if you wanted and could chat with everyone. I loved the graphics. I have not found any other chess site that compares to pogo. That's really the only game I played mostly. How can we get it back? Can't they somehow bring it back? I'm so upset about this. I had so many friends there where we would meet in the chess room and catch up while watching each other play. It's just not the same anymore.

Pogo is much better. Freely communicating to each other . I miss Pogo

lol old thread dam I kiss that place too rating was around 2000-2200 before engines took over, lol I remember the audiences when you’d log in with the red dot. 🔴. Good times lol screen name was THEGREATONE200011 and I think 2001 and a bunch of others I forgot at this point lol.

yes! i do. So, i played there religiously (at the original pogo.com) that was a period in my life when i was absolutely addicted to chess... I worked my tail off to get my rating up to a "red dot" which was labeled as Master. Once i made it to red, i played exactly 4 games and then stopped because the last one was so damn close and if id lost it would have bumped me down so damn far... I wish i had a screen shot or wish there was at least an archive of the different accounts and their ratings. Anyone who played there will tell you that the competition was frikin stiff, it was no walk in the park. Honestly, making it to red dot really was a big deal for me.. I really wish it still existed.
