Are DTG and Fritz Morons Still Shipping software on CD\DVD with the smart eBoard!?

Is it just me or are DGT completely unprofessional and morons supplying a CD \ DVD of Fritz  14 with the smart eBoard?

I have 3 laptops and access to 2 PC's and NONE of them come with CD \ DVD Drives. Its hard to buy a PC with one these days and certainly not a laptop! Organisations view them as a security risk and disable / remove drives and even disable USB ports in office environments. Laptops do not want the size and power draw of drives when download speeds are so high these days,

Are Fritz developers still writing in Cobol, waiting for the Matrix to come out in the Cinema while drooling over their 1 X CDROM drive and playing Dune Battle for Arakis ??? Are their Oxygen comments written in latin ?

It would not be so bad but DGT / Fritz dot offer an ISO Download option or even an cheap upgrade option from Fritz 14 to say Fritz 16 for 30 euro so I could download a version and use the original key.

What these assholes don't seem to have the intelligence to understand is that they are penalizing genuine customers and forcing us to go for illegal downloads and cracks. Once people have that knowledge they have lost a customer for *ever*.

The solution is glaringly obvious as every half intelligent software house knows these days,

...You give the software for free and link it to an online account and charge a monthly or discounted yearly membership fee. The offset for the users "rental" approach is that you get all the updates as long as you have a membership, you stop playing for a few months ... suspend you membership. Meanwhile developers get a stable income stream. If they want a funding boost, see addon's and plugins with exclusive content  

In this day and age why is Chessbase and DGT doing things in such a completely unprofessional manner.

I suppose the solution is to stick two fingers up at chess base and, throw fritz 14 CD in the bin and subscribe to chess.com and use its engine which I believe can be linked with the DGT Smart eBoard.

I just stumbled upon this problem. Yeah like, are they kidding? A freaking dvd and you can't even download the client or anything. I BOUGHT THIS BOARD IN 2020 AND THEY REQUIRE ME TO OWN A FREAKING DISC DRIVE TO INSTALL THEIR SOFTWARE

having the exact same issue. gotta get it to a computer that has a dvd reader, download the software, then send the files to your main computer. 

Hi Guys, FYI I did email Fritz support and they did ask me for my old key before they gave me a private link to download the software and use a new key they gave me.  Point was that by then I'd actually gone online and bought a stupid external CD ROM Drive and installed it anyway. To be honest I was not that impressed and have just used the Raspberry Pi DTG Build and I now use Sawfish ... have not touched the program since .... shame because it looks liek a good program. But like Music ... convienience wins out these days and now we all play misic on Alexa/Siri/GoogleHome and CD Players are dead.  Fritz is dead unless they develope a bluetooth app for mobiles with teh same features and wireless connectivity to eBoards ...
